Not a huge price difference at all. As it is, the Navara sales are poor, I think about a 100 units per month, and the "well" priced Merc will hurt the Navara sales even more, I think.

Cheapest 4x4 is 700K, excluding extras.

Time will tell how the public accept this bakkie. I think majority will be bought by useless MP's, Government officials and SOE Management with our hard earned tax money.

I would reckon the typical buyer will be considering an Amarok, rather than one of the above. Once again, how do the prices compare?

Does the Merc run Datsun engines, or is it a Merc motor?

The X 250 is a Merc engine, or not??

And the 220 is the Renault one??

Must say, pricing are not that bad.

    This will sell.

I wonder if the 350 will come out, and pricing on that.......prolly around R 850 or so, looking at the 250's Price?

My understanding is that the 220d and the 250d are just different specs of the same engine. The 250d is the 140kw version of the Nissan 2.3l Biturbo.

But nobody knows that. The people buying the Merc bakkie will very happy with the Merc badge in the grill and they will all be very happy with their purchase. And we all wish them many happy and joyful kilometers.

    Ohhhh, OK.

Nee hel dan is hy maar duur dink ek.

I wonder what the 250 "Power" is........at almost R 100 000 more than the 250 Progressive, and also manual.

Maar ja.......R 800 000 vir 'n DC in manual met 'n Renault enjin en Navara bak?? No thanks. Not for me. Maybe for you, not me.

This will/should sell, though I think.

    from carmag:

Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing for its new X-Class range, confirming that the local line-up will comprise four derivatives at launch in May 2018.Each of the four variants in the range at launch makes use of a 2,3-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. The unit in the X220d features a single turbocharger and sends 120 kW and 403 N.m to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, while the bi-turbo version under the bonnet of the X250d is worth 140 kW and 450 N.m.This second, more powerful version of the four-pot diesel is offered in rear-wheel-drive form with a seven-speed automatic transmission and in 44 guise, fitted with a manual gearbox or an optional automatic. The V6-powered model, dubbed the X350d, will arrive locally at a later stage. So, what sort of money are we looking at here? Well, the line-up which features the Progressive and Power trim levels (no base Pure models here) will start at R642 103. At launch, the flagship model will be the X250d 44 Power, which comes in at R791 315, dethroning the Volkswagen Amarok 3,0 V6 TDI 4Motion Extreme (R784 400) as the most expensive double-cab bakkie in South Africa. An automatic version of this model (and the 44 Progressive) is also expected to be offered.

Petri, I had a look on the website. The difference between the power and progressive seems to be just spec. The progressive is for people who will work with the bakkie while the power seems to be for the metro crowd - more bling.

But I agree, for that price I want a V6 at least.

It will- those that will buy it won't know the difference - its a brand image thing, Vehicle are fast becoming a fashion accessory thats changed to match the season almost as often as one buys new shoes.

Thats why in same cases young people will go for a tailored option of guaranteed buy back after two years- the installments are just paying the depreciation.
