Default Opinions on a 2012 Grand Vitara 2,4

Hi, I am looking at buying a 2012 Suziki Grand Vitara, 2,4. Looking for honest opinions. Also would like to tow a mid sized caravan with it such as a Palmer or a Swing.

I hear they are heavy on juice, but are not all 4x4s or vehicles with the same engine spec?

    Thanking you all in advance...

I have a Suz GV 2.4 manual. I tow a Metalian maxi full house, ie large tent, 90 lt fridge etc.
Ive been to Okavango, Moremi as the rougher places as well as many other local reserves. The only problem I've had is that the tow bar broke which was not a Suzuki issue but A extremely bad design by Bosal. Tow bar Bolts attached to car body and not on the chassis.
Towing at 100km/h I get about 12.5litre /100km and normal unloaded driving about 9.5l/100km.
Ive had no other problems with the car whatsoever. Car has 110000km on at present.
    Love and trust the car?
    Suzuki Grand Vitara,
    Metalian Maxi bush trailer.
    Harley Davidson VRod.

thank you. I did forget to mention that the one that I am interested in is an auto. I will take a closer look at the tow bar when I view the car again.

Dale I have lot of pics of the failure and a few of the new modified Towbar which I have used in November to Namibia.
It did not move a millimeter.
All main mounting bolts are now on the chassis.
Happy to send you pics if you need.

I have a 2016 Auto. I am very happy with the quality and the treatment I received from this vehicle. 2 years is probably early to tell of any problems, but I am very happy.

Fuel consumption is indicated in my Fuelly that is tracked over 20 000km. It is quite powerful with no hassle overtaking trucks etc.

Dale, you cannot go wrong. I have the 2.4 manual: in 113 000 km and three years, the only problem I've had was premature clutch wear, which will not affect the auto. The car is a dream on a dirt road and the engine is a beauty.

Yes, the consumption is heavy when compared to a diesel VW Polo, but very much on par with any 2.4 Naturally aspirated petrol engines. I get around 9.5 km/l mixed driving on the manual, you can expect about 8.5 km/l mixed driving on the auto. A bit heavier when you tow.

Enjoy (if you decide to go ahead and buy it)!

I can only vouch for the comments made on this subject. My Vitara ("Moeder") is a 2011 manual, fitted with cruise control (actually the first model that came with this facility), and pure pleasure!
I tow a Sprite SC Offroad caravan (max. load supposed to be 1340kg but, when Joanie starts loading ...) and apart from the clutch no hassles at all. LOVE IT!

Balljoint, i had a peak under the rear of the Vitara to look. I was not sure what I was looking for. I would like to take you up on your offer for the photos. Please email a few to [email protected].
