Default Photos of "Modern" Land Rovers Off-Road

So, a few of the comments on my D3 Snapped sideshaft thread (Link Below) got me thinking. Is it a bit unheard of to use D3/4/5 RR and RRS off road? Im talking trails and obstacle courses etc?

I will admit, that that was not the primary reason I bought the D3, as overlanding as well as long-distance work travel to reasonably remote locations was my primary reasoning, and as soon as money allows, i will build another tow for playing SERIOUSLY offroad.

But these are massively capable vehicles, and although vehicles like the Toureg and Cayenne are also luxury and pretty decent off road, they are nowhere near the league of an RRS or D3/4, and Land Rover owners have always been pretty into serious off-road stuff. I know from a few Landy Club outings I have attended that there at least these vehicles get put through their paces.....is this an exception?

If not, show us some pictures of your modern Landy doing some proper off-roading?

    http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/...in#post3829259

PS: I am useless with the camera and actually getting pictures, so I have none to show.... but with this thread, I hope to change that.

RRS, D3/D4... serious offroad vehicle? I suppose it depends upon your definition.

    This thread has no use.

Disco/RRS/RR can't go off road. They are mall crawlers.

The few times we dare to go off the tarmac we have to have a Toyota as back up vehicle!

That is if the crank lasts and if the low profile tyres doesn't puncture after 1 km.

And besides....my wife will be pis.ed with me if I scratch the Mom's Taxi.......

    Why not?

i fully believe that these cars are equally, if not more capable then any other 4x4 that is also meant to be used as a daily drive. Yet the off road community seems to think it impossible.

Remwmber, Land Rover did set a record with the launch of the new RES by crossing the empty quarter of the Sahara in a stock standard vehicle.....

I have been humming and ha hing about fitting a bull bar to my D3, but looking at the white one in the image above.... I think I must go for it.... looks social good. But it does affect the approach angle severely.

Would like to see pic`s from forum members like the video at Moegatle.

I have seen very few Disco`s and RR in the dirt. I mean as on more serious 4x4 outings

Well there is a thread about the party that did baboons and that Bronze D4 had the scars to show it! But thats only 1 D4 owner daring anything.

Very few people in top end 4x4s do proper trails. Even most of the VX200 clan does not realy do proper stuff

    D4 in Liuwa Plains, Zambia.

Not an action image, but then I was driving

No problems in heavy sand, much worse than on image. 19" Rims with Duratracs, next 18" Compomotives (6th tyre on roof is just a standard road tyre as an extra spare).

I hAd such a good giggle a year ago at Honingklip trail. I ended up behind 4 LC's. All 79ers and one 105, but all pimped to death.

All had massive stupid lifts, 35" tyres, winches, high lift jacks, ugly extended wheel arches, huge tapit chrome exhausts, etc....

I was there with my 7month pregnant wife and two small kids in the back of the Disco.

Had to wait at every obsticle for these clowns. After multiple reverses, massive dust clouds and reving the poor engines to hell, they would finaly make it up a obsticle. At some of the tight bends they had to do 10 point turns just to get around the bend.

I would idle up everything with not so much as a wheel spin or a reverse.

They finally let me past right at top of the mountain where they struggled badly.

The worst is...I did not even get out of the Disco to deflate my tyres....

Yes, they are magic off road!

    Serious off road, ??
    You cant be serious,
This is up there AMONG the best , albeit the correct tyre choice and a few tweeks , like suspension rods and it will be 1000's R cheaper to tweek than to make, say a Cruiser off road,
