    Im looking at building my own 4x4 Caravan as a project.

    What are the regulations and process to get it registered?

    Hi. Im interested to know what you are going to clad the frame with. Consider Dibond if you haven't decided yet. Google it and if you want i can send you some more info.

    No Idea. I aim for total weight of 1200 - 1400kg

    You got several options, depending on how you want to have function, eg only one side flipping up or both sides.
    The roof you can either make out of 3mm aluminum and have the edges bend at 45 degrees, reinforce with a frame inside. Or to make it lighter and even stronger, use a sandwich panel, weld a frame using aluminium profiles with a 45degree angle and there you will have it.
    I will use most likely sandwich panels for my popup roof as I have difficulties finding aluminium sheets in the size I want...
    So many resources around on the internet in regards to pop up roofs.

    How would you make the lifting mechanism or hinges? Want whole roof to lift

    Quite easy, two rather large hinge mechanism front and rear and a few gas struts which support the weight. To secure the roof when down, you can use hooks, straps, lots of possibilities.
