    Hi Tintin 85,

Who made the spare wheel carrier shown in your post above? Was it a company in Alberton?
    I need to get one for Swambo's 2011 V6.

Will the standard 255 55 18 be any good in sand and light offroad?

    TIA
Hi Abe, unfortunately I also only have the marie biscuit spare tyre - I was actually reading this thread to see if one could fit the factory spare wheel carrier to my vehicle (or if it is at all still available), when I saw your question by chance.

I have 255/60/18 but I can't see there be much of a difference between that and the 55' for light off road/sand driving.

Can't fit the OEM spare wheel carrier on the Touaregs like ours. Was factory fitted on order.
The after market solution renders your PDC and rear view camera null and void.

The 255/55/R18 fits into the boot, standing upright. But naturally takes a lot of space.

Cheapest option for me was a roofrack and spare wheel carrier. That is what I did. Duster roof rack and full size spare wheel on roof rack.

Thanks Nys, that is a pity, this vehicle is really growing on me (like you warned!), but the spare wheel is the one irritation.

I saw pics of your set-up once so ja, will have to go that route sometime. I need roof bars for my kano & surfski so maybe I must just go roofrack one time.

I thought so too, but 2.5cm looks a massive difference at the tyre shop (diff in diameter)
Ive mailed a bunch of places today for a spare rim, if i dont come right, Im going standard.
