    Default Tyres for Touareg

Could not find a post discussing this topic. Please forgive if it was indeed discussed before. I bought a 2015 VW Touareg V6 Diesel Escape model. It came out with low profile 265/45/20 tire's and rim.

I am considering buying VW rims 18 Inch 5/130 in order to be able to take the vehicle off road. Will I be able to fit a 265/55/18 on these rims - any advantages and disadvantages in doing this.

Any other tyre size to consider ?

Ek sal enige kommentaar verwelkom. Dink daaraan om BF Goodrich op te sit. Het dit tans op my Pajero en dis puik.

They will physically fit on the rim yes. I cannot comment on if they wil clear on the car.

Why donít you rather go 17Ē and then 265/65/17. Tyres in that size are cheaper and better off-road. 17Ēs will fit and Iíve seen 265ís on a new generation Treg. Someone was selling 4 x 17Ē Canyon rims here the other day.

Apparently on the new one the 17's don't fit anymore. 18" minimum.

Thanks guys, on my way to buy the 18' . Recommended size tires are 255/55/18 - BF Goodrich not available in this size but think I will go for the General Grabber AT3.

Not going to do serious 4x4 with this vehicle but need a 50/50 for better off road performance.

Unless something has changed again with the facelift, but have seen 17Ē Canyonís on a new generation Treg V6 TDI. On the V8, itís a different story.

How important is speed rating? Because the Touareg's require a V speed rating and you don't get any AT tyres with that speed rating. Best you would get is a T or if you are lucky an H.
So that begs the question. What happens if something goes wrong and the insurance gets a bee in their bonnet about this?

I see on this website that the new Touareg indeed takes 17 '. The ones I tried did not work due to the brake calipers to big.

I notified my insurer about the tyres that I fitted (Yokohama Geolanders), and explained that they comply with the max. speed I travel at.
The tyres are rated for 210 km/h, which I never exceed).
They did not refute my declaration. (Tuffstuff).

IMHO the speed rating will only become an issue if it is proven that you exceeded the rating of the tyre at the moment of the accident.
I could be wrong of course, I often am

Good point, will make sure - insurance will think of anything to deny the claim

Insurers these days have ZERO ethics and will go out of their wat NOT to accomodate you. Even when I had to have work done on my other vehicles I had no backup from my insurer to enforce quality onto them. The so-called insurance broker I was with boldly proclaim themselves as Integrity, but they are scumm.
I always believed the yellow Umbrella corporation was the best insurer but the broker is where the problems came.

Those will fit, but seeing that there is some uncertainty among us, why not just try it out.

Canyon's are lekker rims, not very flashy, but rock solid, I have total of 9 of them, including the 6 on the vehicle (extra spare at times), just keep the others as spares, or for my next Treg. I've hit some serious potholes, so serious that it renewed my absolute confidence in the air struts, not even the slightest deformation on the rims.

The new Grabbers are supposed to be very good and a lot cheaper than the BFG's. I am using Pirelli's and they are nice and quiet on the highway.

Only problem is you do not get propper offroad or all terrain tyres in those speed ratings.
I am very happy with the COOPERS and they are T rated.
The Continent tal LX Sport Contact is V rated but I would not put that crap on a wheelbarrow!
The side walls are weak and flex very easy. (I can easily Compress the sidewalls with my left hand) The side walls also tend to show signs of ribbing.
Also I followed behind the Touareg while SWAMBO was driving it around a bend at about an intersection and the tread on the wheels were flexing something silly as the tread actually shifted past the verticle line of the rim. That is NOT safe at all! Tyres were also properly inflated.

Suppose Im going the other route. Looking for 18s that look a bit better with a wider tyre that fills the arches a bit better.
