Default Venter trailer with offroad chassis modification

I have a 6 foot Venter, with a nose cone and extention box on top.
i have upgrades the leaf springs from 4 to 5
i have upgraded the axle from 750 to 1000kg
i have changed the bearings and hubs to sealed bearings
i hade to replace tyres and fitted 8ply tyres.

The A frame off a venter is close to useless did i realise December.

Because we camp in tents when we go to Moz, or when we take gravel and scenic roads throughout SA I decided to upgrade the venters chassis.

I stripped the AFrame and nose cone box as well as the axel off etc

built a 50x50x2mm chassis, and a 100x50 lip channel Aframe. I upgraded The jocky wheel and made the A Frame 300 mm longer. i am moving the nosecone fw and it will create a 300 mm gap between the nose cone and trailer box. This will become a basket made deom angle irion and mesh. This will carry wood and dirty braai grids

i will try and post pics from my phone. The trailer obviously lifted 50 mm in my nise cone is a battery thats connected to the BH plug next to the towbar. In the pajero is a hella okug connected to the cable so that the fridge can stand in the pajero boot, but when the car is switched off it draws power from the battery in the nose cone

I will ise the arc welder at home to build the basket and finish. Thouth i would share it here. The stell was around R1000

View from the side, i parked it in the garage and will finish the chassis with chassis paint. It is however painted on both the trailer side and chassis side where the two meet

With the extra weight added, how much loading capacity is left according to the registered capacity?
My understanding is for total (gross) weight to be limited to 750 kg.

I wanted to do similar with my 7 footer, but weight calculations showed it not to be worth it

I recon 30-35 kg was added. I will use an online steel calculator to check and reply again.

Nice job. Do the changes mean that you must redo a roadworthy test and recertificate?

I did a 80mm lift on my little venter many years ago to get it more in line with my Sani. Just a straight box frame on the outside with no additional crossmembers like yours. I used the oppertunity to patch some rust weaknesses at the same time on the rear end with some additional supports.

    Nice work you have done.

    Nice Job Bostokelos
I did a similar job on my Venter a few years back. It hasbeen everywhere you can imagine. I did put it on a previous thread. I addedside pods as well as fit the spare tyre between the nosecone and body. Seethread: http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/...Venter+Trailer
    See attached story.

I could add quite a lot of trips since I wrote thestory. I have added a roof rack with aslide for a full length table to fit under the slide. Having a full lengthtable for camping is great. I sold the Terrecan in Pictures. I now tow with aNissan Navara Supercab. Will attach some pictures.
    Regards

Just watch out 👓 for the insurance small print. Just hope the paint job is not being done to hide substandard workmanship😎

    Hi Bostokkelos,

I upgraded my Venter as well, but added a braked axle to help with going down steep gravel passes.

Atleast the trailer now stays behind me.

    Nice job.

    Cheers,

    Bill.
