Default Moegatle extream outing 3 Feb 2018

We have decided to take out Bronx to Mogatle to go and try out the new section behind Koos se Klim and a new route close to Klipdrif.

You are welcome to come and join us or just spectate, please note that 37" wheels might not be big enough and a winch is a must.

We are departing from Mogatle round 8 AM.

please let me know if you want to go with, too many vehicles will take too long to get thru there

So Saturday morning we all met at Mogatle at 8am, started off on the trail at 8h30 after deflating Tyers. We made our way to Koos se klim were we first did the Pype car route in front of Koos with some new sections added, here all the boys played with even some 35" wheels made the route.
After this we headed for the rear of Koos only with 3 JK's that would attempt the heavy trail. Making way past the big overhang rock took some time with the 4 door JK, just could not get the lineup correct due to the soil being wet after the previous night's rain.
The 2 door made the pass quite easy past the overhang rock. Bronx X with his new 4 link suspension would be tested here today to the fullest. The second section is where all the fun started, making it close to impossible to get up the first section with the moist in the ground. The 4 door of Hansie made it up just as he wanted to hook up the winch, the bend round the corner were not a problem for him. When it came to the big rock on the right that he needs to cross took quite a few attempts to get the vehicle thru there. He stopped just before the second section for the other two vehicle to catch up.
Bronx were next to attempt the first section, the first section is just not made for the shorty. Trying to climb a very steep section with both the front and rear wheels trying to climb rocks at the same time with wet soil is not going to happen. Pulled the winch out and the Smitty built with did his magic, had to winch the second part as well due to the same scenario. going over the rock on the Right were pretty straight forward, testing the flex and suspension of Bronx to the maximum, but still very stable.
Archi tore his calf muscle and had to retire before he could even start.
The third section is a bitch where no one before could drive up. Hansie winched out this section and waited at the top of that hill. Now it was Bronx to get up this section, we tried everything to get the vehicle lined up but kept on sliding off at the back where we ended up on a big rock, pulled out the winch and started pulling, now the shorty did not clear the big "V"on the right and the right front wheel pulled in the V and with putting pressure on that front axel Bronx snapped the 1450 universal. We then realigned the winch and added another winch to get the three legged Bronx to the top.
Here we did a trail fix, pulled the side shaft and plugged the hols so no oil can come out.
But we were not finished as there were another big obstacle to get over, with some effort Hansie got over and now the three legged Bronx needed to get over that big rock on the left and needed to steer clear of the overhang rock on the right.
Getting onto the rock with the three legged Bronx were not too difficult but had to hook Bronx to Hellboy to help a bit as we only have 3 wheel drive.

All in short the trail is the mother of all trails doing justice to the name "Terror Trail" Mogatle is known for. Thanks for everybody that helped with the trail fix and to Hansie in arranging a trailer to get Bronx home.
Rating of the trail, Extreme, do not think this will be easy with 37" wheels. we did it in 40" wheels and we struggled. Beadlock mag wheels is a must on this trail, on some sections the angles is so great that you run on the beadlock. Normal mag wheels will debar here. Make sure your winch is a good one, this is where your winch will be tested to the fullest.

Do not attempt this section alone or without some experienced drivers.
al in all a great outing........
