I would also only look at the petrol if I was shopping.

If you are buying a vehicle (any vehicle) with 150,000km and you want to keep it for 10 years then you will need a vehicle that can last up to about 350,000km...... in that case only look at the Japanese vehicles, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Nissan Patrol etc.
Lol this is so funny why Japanese , I have friends who drive BMW e30s 1981 or so, pity the mileage on the car does not work, but those cars are still running today even though they are most abused cars in the world, check spinning of E30s on youtube. My frind has a BMW with 350 000 kms on the clock still running, I have seen many on Gumtree including X5, remember BMWs are abused daily because of power they produce. If they were as slow as those Japanese cars I am show they would run into Millions.

Any vehicle will make a million km but the difference is in the cost in spares and repairs to get there.

I am surprised at how many experts we have on the forum that know EVERYTHING about Landy's even when they do not own one.

Having looked at them already, I can't see a classier competitor to the D4 unfortunately.

Owned the 320, and it makes the D4 look like a TATA.

That's more Porsche Cayenne league in my opinion. not sure I would take it proper offroading.... I think the Land Cruiser 200 / Toyota Prado is more towards the Disco league. Personally I am a HUGE fan of the Toyota 4Runner available in the US and would trade in my Disco for it in a heartbeat if it were available locally. That is the perfect competitor to the Disco in my opinion... This is once again not meant to be a brand-ashing can of worms being opened.

Have never seen one of the tarmac, never mind kitted for off road work. Excellent choice for slick city driving, have been in one a few times, love the petrol V8.

True. Excellent for Town and Country, has looks too and bling (chrome roof rails et al)
but proper off road - not really.

It was on my short list before I saw one that Hydro Locked Engine fording a small stream
that a Hilux passed (maybe driver technique)

So we have a fair idea with the diesels that they can go to 350k - 500k km (if they have not had crank issues), and i have seen some here and on FB saying they on this type of mileage with original turbos as well.

Yes, the D3/D4 have plenty of other things to keep an eye on and to replace along the way, but that is the price you pay for all the nice to have goodies.

How many of you out there with D3/D4 V8's are close to thia king of km's?

Except for the water pumps, and possibly a timing chain (if its driven like a hooligan), what other big ticket items have you had to replave on a high mileage V8?

I take ot there are not many that have had to be overhauled.

From what i have read on the UK forums, these big , lazy bastards can go forever if looked after well and not driven like it was stolen.
I now have 206000 kms on my v8. Have replaced air compressor, steering rack ends and water pump. All covered in part by the warranty I had. Off the top of my head I can't recall replacing anything else major, I'll have to go look at my invoices.

After replying here here I have gone against what I said about not wanting to spend that amount to change to 18s and have ordered a set of compromotives. They should be here in about 2 weeks.

main reason I ordered is exchange rates are favourable and I just thought WTH, and my disco is only used for off road trips now, which I will be doing more of now. All in just under R25k for 5 delivered to my door.
