Default D4 High Mileage Reviews? (250,000KMS and above)

My apologies if this has been discussed but any very high mileage owners of the D4 SDv6/TDv6 Or v8? We are thinking of a 2014+ D4 and mileages seem to be in the range of 150k and above, and it's something we want to keep for 10.years or so.

Any stories and experiences out there from high mileage D4 owners will be helpful.

Buy the v8. Read up about the diesels...

It is all over the forum and internet.

In the diesel the cranks tend to give some trouble, I suggest (as Oppies3800 said) you trawl the Land Rover section here and do some proper research.

I would also only look at the petrol if I was shopping.

If you are buying a vehicle (any vehicle) with 150,000km and you want to keep it for 10 years then you will need a vehicle that can last up to about 350,000km...... in that case only look at the Japanese vehicles, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Nissan Patrol etc.

So would you like the OP to buy uninformed?

That's not cool. If he still decides to go that route he will have all the information.

I would rather inform a potential buyer.

Did not mention the problem, merely advised to do research

Not to get into a debate but, yes. Really.

Just so you know, I am a HUGE VW fan, I have owned a Citi Golf 1.6i, a Polo Classic 1.9TDi, an Audi A4 Avant 3.0TDi (that gave me trouble) and a Jetta 1.4TSi and I loved every single one of them.

I admit you can get high mileage out of all brands but I gave my own opinion on what I personally believe is the best route to follow if doing what the OP is doing.

Sorry if my previous post offended anyone, that was not my intention.

Seems this forum hasnt changed much and is exactly why I and other old members have gone from being here a few times a day to once in a blue moon.

Anyway, if you are planning to keep a D4 for 10 years and it already has high mileage, the first thing you should do is start saving for maintenance as they can be expensive to maintain but the run of the mill service is no more expensive than other brands. Remember it is a million rand car and because it devalues it doesnt mean the maintenance also gets cheaper.

I considered trading mine in last week but chickened out. It is fully kitted for overlanding and even has the hated 19 inch wheels which I have not changed yet. I havent had any issues to worry too much about, and its been all over Southern Africa doing proper overland trips, not like some of the wannabe's here who claim to be experts or experienced. If the crank goes, i am prepared to purchase another motor. Its a brilliant vehicle and probably one of the best I have owned but it is costly to repair when you need to repair it.

    I agree with Bruce,

My D4 has 195,000kms at the moment, no major issues so far. I bought it at 155,000kms and had cambelt done at 185k kms.

I would not swop it for any other ride out there.Make sure you purchase a 'Service Plan' which includes the cambelt.

Isn't it time to check the oil pump? I think Landyluvver or Tgwinduna said they also do that on the D4?

    interesting the 'high mileage' thread.

Ive never owned a veichle with that high kilometerage on it.

I wonder if we looked at the whole D4 population in SA - how many are really giving problems.

the 'odd' failure announced here gets inordinately blown up [bad pun]

Ive just got a nice 2015 D4 - spoke to 2 landy mechs who REALLY know their stuff and have access to all the data.

They were of the opinion that the D4's are reasonably trouble free.

much like the FL2 , which has a good rep.

Remember the TD5 bad 'press'...... now it's sought after.

I was serious looking at one of these not to long ago and would serious read up about it on this forum but also other places. They are seriously good vehicles but if you dont have deep pockets for just in case I would steer very far from the diesel models.

Not trolling here, but personally I would not touch anything with that motor in it, it is simply a flawed product, from failed turbos to injectors, EGR issues, and the big one. compared to opposition products EG the VAG 3.0 Tdi it just doesn't compare risk wise.
