Harties cable car service road

I did some checking on Google earth and see that their is a service road going up the back of the mountain to the top of the cable car station at Harties . Does anybody know if one can get permission to drive it? have an idea for a function and if one could drive up them the plan mite just work.

20 Years ago I heard of a group from Brits that drove up the mountain. Unfortunately I do not have contact with any of them.

My suggestion is to start by talking to the people operating the cable car. It would be quite a nice adventure/challenge!

We moved to Harties in 1981. Were suprised one evening to see a vehicle coming down the mountain via the cableway side of the mountain. It was one of those kortgat Samils. Later found a route from behind the high school up the mountain, walked up there plenty times but later it was washed away almost completely. Since we left Harties 20 years ago, not sure what happened to that route. Access was later on a challenge when the sport facilities of the school was added to.

Spoke to the manager now, route is a no go due to sagety and different properties it traverses. He will check with a neighbour who could possibly help. I will post here.

There are a bunch of route up the Magaliesberg at various places. Pretty much all are on private property.

I was lucky enough to know a few routes for a bunch of years, but the last route I had access to dried up a few years ago when the guy sold the place.

If you want to drive to the top, I would recommend Piesangskloof.

Two routes that I know of:

- via Zilkaatsnek Nature reserve / Rand Water water tank access road
- behind Harties high school

The first one implies access to private ground.

The second one requires some serious road building and a proper rock-crawler at this stage as far as I know.
