Telkom Chairperson Jabu Mabuza will chair Eskom’s board as part of a host of measures announced on Saturday by government, to “stabilise management” at the power utility.

Government has also recommended that former Land Bank CEO and Absa Capital executive Phakamani Hadebe be appointed as Eskom’s acting group CEO, with immediate effect.

The board has been directed to appoint a permanent CEO and CFO within the next three months.

Government also wants all Eskom executives who are facing “allegations of corruption”, including former acting CEO Matshela Koko and suspended CFO Anoj Singh, to be removed immediately.

The statement makes it clear that this was an urgent intervention and followed a meeting between President Jacob Zuma, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown and Minister of Finance Malusi Gigaba on Friday. The intervention will be ratified by Cabinet at its next meeting.
Always think: Could this be sarcasm?

So the milk farm scandal is resulting in some serious action. Free State milk farm through which the Sun City R30 milj wedding money was stolen from the tax payer is in the hands of AFU. Looks like bank accounts linked to Atul Gupta and Duduzane Zuma (either on their name or on companies they control) are also frozen. Minister Mosebenzi Zwane will not last long either.

List of those who got the money is given. Those are mainly companies. Unfortunately the individuals who then got it from the companies are not yet listed

    https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/N...-farm-20180120

This would not have happened couple months back. All the information has been know for quite a long time - partly years.

Edit: Here is a bit more details. There will be some jail time coming

    The Fall of Zuma

Heading taken from the article. Worth to read. Might not be 100% accurate but gives some background why we have all these good news.

The best line comes at the end:
"Likely to make matters worse for Zuma is news that Gupta lieutenant Salim Essa has allegedly turned on him and the family.

Sources say Essa, who has been at the center of the Gupta’s alleged state capture schemes, will lodge an affidavit with Ntuthuzelo Vanara, the evidence leader in the parliamentary inquiry into Eskom."

That would be extremely serious for Guptas and Duduzane and.... Very long list

    Enjoy reading:

DC is trying to recover R287.5 milj Guptas got out of them by manipulating Oakbay share price. Guptas don't seem to have a proper defense in place. I doubt that IDC will get the money easily. I am pretty sure everything is being hidden as fast as possible. There are accountants who will look for the money. South Africa will get help from big banks overseas.

So part of NPA has been working. Several months back I was told that SARS has similar situation. Apparently there are files waiting to be acted on when the boss goes. After I was told that a lot more SARS employees have left. Hopefully there are enough left and maybe some will go back. Keep your fingers crossed. Al Capone was nailed by the tax man (Internal Revenue)!!

I'd say cleaning up Zumas mess is off more importance than removing Zuma himself.

Great news wrt Eskom. They are on a path to entirely bankrupt the country.

Get proper exco management and boards for these soe first.

    /\ THIS!!
I think they should not push to recall Zuma because that will involve a negotiated departure and, inevitably, immunity of some form or another which will result in cronies only getting nailed.
Better to keep him on while this all comes out and gathers traction in the NPA and hopefully forcing him into resignation, in which case, all immunity bets are off.

    Just my tuppence worth.....

Everyone in this country has a general dislike for Eskom and rightly so.

I have worked on various power stations in the country as a contractor over the years.

The operators, engineers and plant managers are just normal folk going on with their daily lives. The rot at the top is not of their own doing. The amount of amps and stress they go through during a time of load-shedding is incredible.

I remember I was at Majuba PS when load-shedding was in full swing. A unit had to be taken offline for routine long overdue maintenance and was on the brink of failure. A call from Eskom head office told the personal that "If you as much as reduce a megawatt load on that unit, you will face disciplinary action. It will run full load, and it's your responsibility to keep it up".

So yeah, I have respect for these guys, and I am so stoked they are finally getting proper leadership. I think a normal Eskom employee will have a good Monday tomorrow.

    Next, SAA and Denel.

I have also done a lot of work on ESKOM sites. There are very many good people there but between also those "What is there for me". Hopefully they get all in order. I saw this morning one engineer who works currently on ESKOM sites posting "Rebirth of Eskom"

Late 80s I had a contract to run at Maputo. There the president sent soldiers to the power station. They were standing AK47 in their hands to make sure that the units are not shut down for maintenance or some other reasons.

There is a lot of work to be done including changing government instructions where the coal has to be bought.

The good point is that the clean up has started. Two biggest culprits Molefe and Singh are out. They robbed also the Transnet. Last info was that Singh signed R400 milj payment to some obscure company for no work done. ESKOM has said that no money was handed over. Lets see.

I think Jabu did a good job at turning Telkom around into a profitable business.

Although they made some mistakes selling Vodacom etc.

I wonder if he will take some of the Telkom management over.
    Good times.

This is a good and positive thread. I have always said that we must not give up on RSA and that there is no need to run to Australia yet.

Must say exiting times ahead. I really like how a lot of smiles have been wiped of some smug faces.

Like I’ve said cannot wait to see their mug shots all over the news.

I think there is a couple of MP CV’s out there at the moment.

Criminal cases take long to process. Civilian cases are faster. Magda Wierzycka together wit Helen Suzman Foundation filed court application mid December on state capture. Now Treasury has agreed to help the case. This might be mainly on ESKOM issue.

Interesting will be to hear how much Guptas have taken, which Wierzycka will publish.

Even military veterans (MKMVA) are starting to turn their coat Very diplomatically not to loose their face. If NEC calls Zuma to be recalled then it is OK for them

    https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/N...atsoe-20180121

I do not know anybody who is faster in turning their coat than politicians/near politicians.

Who is left? Women's league - maybe. Couple Zuma supporting provinces are dismantled on the top - so no more. Already last year some were looking into getting amnesty. Essa is possibly already a singing canary. There will be more
