    Default 4x4 route - Mpumalanga

    Hi Everyone

    Hope you are well.

Can anyone please advice on a 4x4 route we could do over the easter weekend (201. All normal resorts are always full with holiday makers, but fortunately for us 4x4 owners, we can go to remote places where others cant.
I am from Gauteng, and looking to explore Mpumalanga.
Now I would not neccessary want to say in 1 place for the duration of the easter weekend.
We are 4 people and 1 vehicle for now, and happy to drive a 4x4/scenic route to the next destination daily.
    We would prefer to camp

We looking to drive along and camp along side a river bed, or through mountain ranges.

Any suggestions? Anyone to to possible join from a safety aspect (dont 4x4 with 1 vehicle)

The river camp in the Blyde River Canyon, accessed from Mariepskop! Phone 015 793 2581 for queries. Although not quite Mpumalanga (Limpopo not far from MP border), also consider Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve and the Mafefe Ivory Route trail. Some others on my bucket list I can't comment on yet is the Mac Mac Summit 4x4 route, Songimvelo Nature Reserve and the Barberton mountain landscape.

Is the Ebutsini 4x4 still open? Did it in 2008 and found it easy but the scenery was spectacular.

They had some problems i. e. Differences of opinion between local community and people who wanted to do mining in the area and the trail was closed as a result. I will try and follow up as I also want to do the trail.

Het jy hulle nommer? Weet nie of Gideon nog daar betrokke is nie? Hy was ook by Riverwild betrokke jare gelede. Ek het sy nommer.

Have a look at the Barberton Geo-route.

Also look at the Eureka mine trail.

There is also a wonderful road from Badplaas past Diepgezet, over Saddle Back pass to Barberton

The geotrail is incorporated in this route. Well worth it.

So back to an earlier question, I can take it that Ebutseni is not in operation any more?

I just called now, and yes they are not operational. There is a dispute between the local community and miners in the area. Apparently the community sent a petition to some government department to resolve the matter. But nothing has come from it yet.
