Default Problem with lights after Extreme Lights Purchase

My FJ Cruiser lights were crap, they were OK on full beam as I had Halogen spots connected when on full beam, but terrible on dip.

Took the plunge and bought a set of H4 Elite Version 6 Replacement Bulbs,R1595.oo from Extreme Lights...

I have bought from them before spending R5800 on a set of spots for another 4x4....

Installed them without a hassle, tested them and the bulbs themselves were 'brilliant'
But,the high beam dash light won't come on and my spots don't work

So I contacted Extreme Lights, and they(Pieter) basically told me to go see a auto electrician.

When I said(wrote) that I would be asking a solution to my problem here,I was offered to return the bulbs to them-Extreme Lights
What the hell happened to after sales service?

Apparently, after MY research,I need a Light Error Warning Canceller Decoder Leakage Module

    Hi there,

Thank you for contacting us on our Live Chat Support Portal . As we discussed these bulbs has been fitted to a FJ Cruiser before and they should be plug and play. If that is not the case we will gladly take them back and refund in full as discussed in our chat on our website.

Even if they do fit and you are not happy with the performance we will still take them back and refund, but we would obviously much rather have them work for you.

We mentioned auto electrician because you indicated that you have your spotlights hooked up to your high beams on the bulbs so I thought that it might be a wiring issue with the spotlights interfering with the beam on the bulb which should work on the FJ Cruiser without any modification.

We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

Toyota's use negative switching if I remember correctly - had the same issues when I sold HID bulbs and we had a fix for that but for the life of me I cannot remember what I used to do - will rack the old brain - I know it involved a relay

Toyota has a unique way to switch their hi-beam.
Even after Xenon conversion on a RAV4 the hi-beam indicator light on the dash does not work anymore.
I think the polarity check would help in the signal wires (the ones that switch from low to high beam).
This might also be the case to trigger the spot lights.

What I can think as an easy fix is the installation of a solenoid changing polarity then connecting the control light and the control wire for the spots to the (+) contact of the solenoid.

No need to return the LED's they work okay.

I am a bit surprised that EL is not giving any support for the solution, but offer the return which does not help a client as such.

    .
Exactly,I don't want to return them,I don't want to remove them, all I wanted was advice from the supplier, it's not as if I bought them from the Chinese Mall for R12.50
Plus they do their own testing, they do research in case anybody drives under water for 3 hours, but nothing if a guys got other lights installed?

I have fitted spot-lights to various vehicles over the years.

Had a good struggle trying it on my Hilux !! Until I was told that the Toyota wiring is different, something about negative switching .....

I can only imagine this must cause havoc trying to do both high and low beams .....

Bob MAYBE somebody on the Hilux forum has a solution for you .... I know there is a wiring diagram for the spots, but that is not what you need now.

I am sorry incrediblebob but to me you sound more like incrediblegrumpy.

Pieter tried to help but you could not run to the forum fast enough.
You haven't even answered his last question.

He apologized, gave sugestions, asked questions and offered to take it back.

I think there were better ways of dealing with the situation.

Disclaimer: I do not know Pieter or the company, nor have I ever bought something from them but it pi$$es me off when people don't give suppliers a chance to rectify a situation because it's more fun to rant online.

I'm a bit surprised with all this negativity towards the supplier. Although technical assistance would be great, experts come at a cost. Is the onus not on the buyer to find out how to install and if there might be a complication on his specific model car? It sounds to me like the H4 plug fits and the product is not faulty. The vehicle, which is the clients responsibility in this DIY job, is behaving strangely, and the supplier, who is not responsible for the standard operation of this vehicle unfortunately does not have an answer but is very willing to accommodate and accept a return. Jolly nice of them I think.

I think the advice from EL is correct.
Say they advice you to swap some wire, that you yourself might have connected correctly, and there goes the computer.
Would you then also expect EL to pay for the computer replacement?
The suppliers only option is to advice you to either return it or seek professional auto electrical advice.
They, the supplier, is not professional auto electricians, nor do they install these products themselves.

As stated, if there is a product fault return it. If the issue is on your side of the car, either seek help here, but do not blame the supplier or the person that gives the advice, if something does not work correctly.

Perhaps if you post a wiring diagram of how you wired everything, it might make the picture clearer for all concerned.

As a last suggestion, disconnect your spots and see if you still have the same problem.
Surely that would be simple enough to check?

I think the dealer handled it well. They cannot be liable for sub standard work.

Extreme - maybe add a clause. Warrantee valid if installed at an auto electrician or fitment centre

Extreme Lights answer was good. You can't wire lights over the goddamn phone. If you screw up who you gonna blame?

Are those lights legal? Do they have the E mark on them? If you don't mind me asking.
