The trip down did have some problems....

The owner had the clutch replaced some weeks ago....only used it for driving round Bethlehem after change.

So after receiving it drove it to Kroonstad to a farm near Bossiespruit. (The army base where I suffered thru training...). Upon stopping smelt the smell of 80W90.

Promptly rolled underneath and saw the transfer case was covered in oil. Transfer case is bolted onto the back of the gearbox which had to be removed to change the clutch. (Hilux replacement)
Seemed to me that it was bleeding between the gearbox and transfer case. I could turn all the bolts a quarter turn....added 350ml oil...cleaned and thought problem solved.

Next day drove to Welkom area to visit some other friends...checked the case....full of oil...again

Fortunately they had a pit...drove onto and did proper inspection. The buggers never refitted the boot where transfer lever goes into the case...it was stuck up near the body. Also the four bolts holding down the lever housing were sans washers...so they bottomed out...thus not sealing properly. Could get to the two front ones and put in washers. The back ones were more difficult to get to...needs complete strip from inside. Left them. Decided to see how it goes.

Left in the morning...it leaked....so the procedure was...
Bloemfontein, Colesberg, Graaff Reinet and home....rolled underneath, took out filler plug, added anything up to 50-100ml, depended on the hardness of driving. (tried to stick to 110km/h, but truck overtaking...)

    Got home safely, no issues.
Not peeved at owner, he would have never noticed as he never got it hot enough to show. More peeved at company that did replacement of clutch. Some 'ape' working there.

Also the boots on the front CV's were shot. Owner knew and I accepted situation. CV's did not knock on full steering lock, so they seemed ok.

Covered broken boots with bubble wrap and tied with tape and cable ties to prevent dirt ingress. That shaft doesn't turn in 2H anyway.

Protection was still fine when I got home.

Local Midas stocked boots @ R100

    Being fixed as I post

I picked up a stone on the Welkom Rd (Free State) and that developed into a crack. Right in my face.
Could be an issue with roadworthy....

No windscreens available via National Autoglass.

Contacted WiseCracks....did his thing and crack hardly visible....starbursts repaired as well

On the way home stopped at GrandMark for something else. Asked if they could source a Rocky windscreen...as luck would have it, they had one they ordered but wasn't collected. Promptly bought it @ R1 200 and it can reside in my store till required.

CV boots replaced, transfer case oil leaks resolved, some minor items to sort before roadworthy.

So took it for it's first 4x4 outing, at Paradise near Wilderness.

The Desert Dog section the cross axles were just too big, but Fugly after couple of tries was conquered.

This one you have to use 4L in 1st gear running at 4000rpm to not loose steam at the top

Video of last hill, need to lift vehicle as cross member supporting gearbox a trifle low, I seem to be grading the middle mannetjie.

Vat die gat headon dan is dit nie 'n cross axle nie. Ry deur die gat. Ons klein karretjies pas binne in die gat.
