    Default 2005 Pajero tyres

    Hi guys

So my SWB will need new tyres around April.

I see standard size is 265/65/17. Previous owner fitted 245/75/17 Wranglers.

Shorty has a 50mm lift with OME shocks and IM coils.

Any idea why the previous owner would have changed sizes? Do I have to do the same or can I go back to standard size when its time?

I dont really understand tyres to be honest.

The 75 profiles are "higher" meaning a taller sidewall. I assume it was fitted to compliment the suspension lift making the car stand taller.

With a 50mm lift I would fit 265/70R17 or bigger. But that's just me.

The 245 is about 23mm higher.

As Riaan said, the new size has a taller sidewall. Thus when you deflate the tire can deform more, this will help in sand.

However, the tires are also narrower than standard, so the overall diameter is only 2,9% bigger than standard. This should make your speedo more accurate as they normally underread. If you have an auto box changing the diameter too much will give shifting problems but these tyres should be fine.

You can go with either one depending on what looks good to you and the cost of the two sizes. I generally try and stick to manufacturer size.

23mm on the diameter, so only 11.5mm ground clearance gain.

As mentioned, go with 265/70R17 - bigger will most likely rub on the wheel arch trim on the Pajero in front at full lock.

Remember to make sure your spare is the same size so you may need 5 tyres if changing tyre size, a cost consideration.

I had 32" (265/75R16) muds on my 2005 SWB and it didn't rub. Suspension was standard.

265/70R17 is only 5% of the width (265) higher than the 265/65R17 which is standard. With a 50mm lift as mentioned, it shouldn't rub. The 32's will look meaner

The lift has absolutely no influence on the wheel touching the fender in front of the wheel.... also, going too big then influences your low down torque too.

If there is an aftermarket steel bumper on then of course you can go bigger than 265/70.
