Angry Need Help with my 2002 Nissan Harbody 3.0 16V TDI

    Hi All,

I bought a Nissan rebuild about 2 years ago.

Car came with the Original motor - but it was out the car and the engine needed work. Listening to my Mechanic then, he said it would be quite easy to fix the motor and all we needed to do is get a second hand motor for the spares i didnt have and send the motor into Engineering to have sorted out (Crankworx - JHB).

Needless to say - the Engineer took me for a ride and took R13500 to assemble the motor and place it back in the car - no work done on the motor. After we opened the motor up - pistons were still all pitted etc - no bores or new sleeves.

Anyways - i have the car standing at the momemnt and i have spent a fortune on the car so far - (well over market value) - what do you recommend i do?

are there any Mechanics/Engineers that specialize in Nissan Hardbody that are in the JHB/PTA area that you would recommend that i take my car too and that can assemble and get the car running?

Or should i just buy and place a imported engine in the car?

Please Help - What should i do

Personally I would go with an import replacement

Talk to Engines and More in Harties, they supply imported motors and have fitment services. I've used them often and recommended them as well, and have never heard of a dodgy deal or any comebacks.

That would be the quickest and cheapest.

By the way, you can't rebuild / refurbish a ZD30 for R13,500. That's basically labour and maybe a clutch kit. So all he did was as instructed: put the engine in the car. Engineering work would have cost a LOT more.

So if you have a very constrained budget, I'd consider just selling the vehicle as is, you're going to need around R50k to get it comprehensively sorted.

    Thanks Jelo,

I think i have gone beyond the point of just selling it as is. The car body wise is fine and what im going to use it for i think one i have it sorted out - i can drive for a few years.

The car is paid for and i owe nothing on it - i have already spent approx 65 K on it.

I will give the guys a call and go through and see them on what we an finally do to have this resolved.

    Thanks again for the help!

Ever considered dropping the older 2.7 Turbo Diesel engine in there?
Its mechanical injection, i remember a saying on those: Battery is used for Glow plugs and lights only (and if you have a radio)...

    Just a thought.

It will be a nice option. Or a QD32 with the TD27 turbo inlet and exhaust manifolds.

TD25/27/QD32 and the Hardbody ZD30 are identical bellhousing patterns.

    /slightly off topic

I wondered about this, which means it should fit the existing gearbox/bellhousing as is.
Are you aware of any flywheel/clutch changes that is required?

(i actually saw a vehicle fitted with this, but i am not sure about how the drive train integrates)
