    you wont need vehicle papers.

i've been up without my passport. didn't carry it with me and we ended up taking a drive that way. explained to the border agents that i'm just going up to the pub and they were fine with that.
Its not about how fast you are but about how quick you get there...

    Hi Steven,

I am also planning a trip up that way for June this year, when doing the enquiry, was told that I only need passports no vehicle papers.

PS Please let us know how it is there and how far the tarring has come, might have to move my trip forward, if they making progress on the tarring :-)

    Thank You!

I have yet to be asked for vehicle papers at Sani. I do carry them though just for that one time you meet up with an officious official.

We were up there end December. Haven't started tarring yet. They are grading and building the bridges over the water crossings but not tarred yet.

Did Sani Saturday 13th Jan on a LC Adv on Anakee road tyres with a pillion. I deflated front to 1.4 and rear to 1.9 (due to pillion). About one hour up and 45 mins down. Had a few scenic stops en route.

Road from bottom is tarred halfway to RSA border post and rough gravel and road works to said border post. Much rougher going up with lots of erosion and ruts all the way also loose stones. Have not been graded for a loooong time. No sand. With my set-up however I did not have issues though.

Important: In the present state this road is NOT for newby or inexperienced guys. The smaller the bike the easier.

The switchbacks near the top are challenging and suitable momentum is the key to a successful ride.

Coming down 1st gear with foot feathering the rear brake when required and keep momentum while taking the best lines. Until the gradient flattens somewhat one needs to concentrate.

I was there on the 27th of December, the Boarder closes at 18:00 but opens at 06:00. I left the Pub at 16:00. You do not need papers for the car to drive up the pass infact I have driven from Sani Pass to Maseru then Bloemfontein without papers, they just want your Pass port. If they give you problems ask for Melusi he is a The Police there at the Sani Pass Boader gate tell him the son of his former Principal wanna speak to him
