Mata-Mata or Nossob?

Blackie - What month was that?

Without hijacking the thread, a couple of photos of our experience that day with the Nossob storm.

1. Storm starting building up
2. After a heavy rainstorm on route
3. Fortuner stucked
4. Lions - just after we got the Fortuner out and I hooked up the Bos Parra again.
4. Nossob about 30 mins after the disaster strucked.

What game did you see at Nossob - how did this compare with Mata?

We just came back from camping at both. They are both great campsites, mata mata has higher trees and also a much better view of the bush and a awesome view of the sunset and moon rise. It also has a lot more bird life in the camp and lots and lots of squirrel, meerkat and mongoose.

Nossob has lower denser trees but not as much smaller wildlife in the camp, probably because it's is invaded by jackals. In both camps the animals can destroy things if you leave any type of food unlocked. Nossob has a much nicer water hole and we saw a falcon catch a sand grouse. The ablutions at nossob were also marginally better.

Don't think you can go wrong at either

Paul, that was the 7th April 2016, the day that Nossob had that massive hail storm. We arrived there about 30 mins after the storm and it was chaos in the park, vehicles windscreens shattered, white plastic tables looking like sieves with big holes right through them, the ceiling in the shop collapsed, some of the chalets ceilings collapsed, entire campsite was flooded, except right up against the top towards the swimming pool.

if it is your first time to Kgalagadi, go to Nossob. I have been to all the camps in Kgalagadi and prefer Nossob by Mata Mata not bad. You can't enter the Botswana side with out a passport and that you need to do at Tweeriviren at Botswana border post. Then again you must have a booking for a Botswana camp otherise you won't be able to enter the Botswana area. Nossob is in the heart of Kgalagadi and realy gives you the feel of the place

The camp is great, new ablutions etc

Wildlife is great at both camps, but I was lucky to see the most at Nossob. You can drive up to Unions end which is a nice day trip to do and is from Nossob camp

Nothing to do with the roads, just before the rains the game tend to concentrate around the mata mata area and the auob river but after the rains they migrate towards the Nossob river. Seeing one of those Kalahari Tsunamis approaching is a sight to behold.

What game did you see at Nossob - how did this compare with Mata?

We saw lots of cheetah and one with cubs eating a kill on the mata side and then some lion but in the distance.
Nossob we saw quite a few lion close up and plenty of the predator birds. Owls eagles falcons secretary birds you name it. The gemsbok and wildebeest were everywhere.
It was blazing hot so almost all the animals were under trees.
