Default Kgalagadi Trip Report - Long overdue

I have been motivated to complete this report from 3 years ago by several other reports, including Tobie`s photo report posted recently. Wonderful pictures Tobie. This is really a special place.

Frans - Many thanks for posting. It was worth the wait!

You certainly had a great trip. 43 lions on a 15 day trip is quite an achievement.
Can't believe how green the Park was!!
We usually visit in the very dry season - September.

It is good advice to avoid busy Twee Rivieren BUT we have seen our best game sightings there due to the proximity of the two rivers. We usually stop over for two nights on our way north. Never heard cattle there??

Kielie is one of our favourites too - so nice to have a view! We were advised to keep our door shut to prevent mice and then cobras entering the kitchen.

The Kalagadi is surely on my bucket list. Just waiting for the kids to get a bit older (son is 2 years and daughter 6 months) so they can also enjoy the experience. But I've been dreaming of visiting this place for so damn long. I really can't wait for the trip to become a reality.

Nice report Frans, a very special place indeed. Love those images of sand roads leading up through the dunes and your black maned lion, wow! Makes me itchy for a revisit, maybe 2019

Thanks Paul. The park aws really in good state at the time. The trip was specifically timed for just after the rains. We had several days during the visit when there was still showers happening.
Maybe we were unfortunate with the cattle.
Had the same advice at Kieliekrankie. Funny how you scan in detail that path coming out after that advise. Better safe than sorry.

To the SA side, not sure. The bucket list is so long. Planning to visit Kaa/Swartpan area later this year.

Cornell, you will never regret going, you will regret not going. Mine was also in the mind for many years before it happened.

Thanks. We got to start traveling at a late stage in our lives. Unfortunately there are none outstanding now. There will be one coming up in April some time on the Wild Coast. Looking forward to drive the route you recommended from before Flagstaff via Tabankulu up to the N2.

I know that feeling walking down the corridor. To make matters worse we had the chalet with some water tank next to the entrance - lots of shade for Cobras.

I know the feeling. You tick off one and add three, it never stops. At least I will tick one in March you have already ticked - Wild Coast.
