Lions were actively threatening visitors at Mabua Campsite Nr. 1 in October 17.
The guys needed to stay at the overflow campsite.
The next day the young males chased another vehicle
by trying to bite the tyres while it was driving.

We are camping there at the end of January, pepper spray and my trusted stock prodder will be next to me.

The first lion to stick his head in my shower will get his eyes filled with pepper spray and I will be prodding him on the butt on his way out....

Enjoy your holiday but one word of advice.
Do not lose or abuse your natural fear of lion etc.
Way too many people think lion are scared of them.

We stayed at Lesholoago for 2 nights last November and yes, every day we had lions in Camp. The first evening, we were sitting at the bonfire talking about the past day, now and then i lit my torch for looking and suddenly, around 21:30 there was a lion less than 50Mtr away, we decidid to leave very slowly and went to our car, the lion walked around the campsite, even went to the fireplace and then he walked away to the waterhole.

The second night, the lions stayed all night on the campsite, roaring all night long along the vehicles, we didn't sleep that much but what an experience it was, luckely we were save on our RTT !

We've been told by a Dutch couple stayed at the same campsite after us that there were Suisse guy's that invated the campsite and even open the showertap for more than an hour giving water to the lions, how stupid can you be !!!!! and just for taking pictures

I thought there was no water available in mabua?

Do you perhaps know which campsites have water?

We are staying in Khiding, Rooiputs & Matopi

You must then be coming to Mabua via Tsabong ?
Then you must be going out via Matopi to Nossop ?

We always carry plenty 5l bottles of drinking water.
Fill trailer or water tank at Main Gate, Lesholoago and Mpaya 1 they normally always have water for cooking and showers etc.

We prefer not to drink mabua water, some say they do ?
    Khiding and Matopi zero water.
    How many days.
When you leave Mabua, don't leave very very early. Not a lot to do at Matopi.
No dunes to speak of really.
When leaving Matopi heading to Nossop leave early maybe.
About 19km from Nossop you have one dune to climb.

No we are coming down from Maun sleeping at Kalahari rest camp the night before.

We are only spending 1 night at each campsite, ran out of time and I am rather disappointed that we won't be spending more time there.

We have about 75 liter of water tank / bottles.

From what I have read, I would be able to fill them again in Nossob and also get fuel there?

We will only be one vehicle and our setup is quick to break down and leave, just not sure about the roads and time driving.

We were lucky enough to be visited by this pride too. Very early morning. They are quite capable of opening the tap by themselves. Mostly by accident. We saw a young female doing it. About half an hour later, when the whole pride had their fill, we could drive to the tap and close it from the car.

Why doesn't someone just dig a small hole and leave the tap open slightly...? That way they will always have water....

    Very true.

On water and lions: IMO all water supply to campsites in Mabua should be stopped. I see it as part of the reason why lions keep coming to certain camps and becoming increasingly habituated.

IMHO that might not be so easy as they have now made the association between water and humans- this could make them more aggressive in their search for water around campsites.
