Default Transmission overheating warning TDV3 SE

    Good evening all,
Had a message come up on the car on the way home tonight "TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING".
No great distance was travelled, 10km possibly.
Not hot, raining probably around 18/20deg (East Rand)
Going to check radiator levels tomorrow morning when it has cooled down.
Anything else that I need to check?
    Cheers
    Clive

    Hi Clive

I Agree, the first step will be to check the water levels and quality to assure everything is OK.

I had before were the transmission cooler failed (its part of the engine radiator) and allowed coolant into the transmission and the vehicle also brought up overheating on the cluster, but then you will normally feel harsh gear changes.

The other thing that it can be is the temp sensor that failed on the mechatronic control unit, inside the transmission. The only way to test that sensor is to connect a Diagnostic tester when the vehicle is cold and to compare the transmission temperature with ambient temperature.

If you need any assistance with a diagnostic tester, feel free to give me a call or to bring the vehicle in to ZF.

    Regards
    Nico

Had all of that done recently, I think it's the sensor.
Even when starting from cold I get the message.
Going to have it checked out today.

Stopped in at Landy Tech (Gearbox Doctor) Randburg, and Carlos sorted me out. It was the temp sensor in the rear diff that had decided to stop playing nice.
    Thanks for sorting me out.
