I just read this in the UK press release. Pity, a Jimny with my Duster's engine would be downright epic off road, and much more liveable on it. A 1.0 turbo petrol won't exactly have the characteristics we need to crawl over rocks...

Indeed. My experience with the Fiat Panda Cross proved that these tiny boosted engines are useless at low speed off road stuff.

To a degree, but low range or not, if an engine develops almost no torque below 2000rpm no amount of low range will help. Itís still going to stall when you try and crawl over an obstacle.

What RPM range does the current Jimny develop its peak torque?

Iím not sure, but Iím sure at idle it has more torque than a boosted 1.0 3-cylinder

These tiny turbo motors are great when theyíre boosting, but below the boost threshold theyíre useless.

I think you're right, this can be said for any turbo engine.

I guess the Jimny might become the first tiny turbo engine'd vehicle with low range then?

Im sure the Japs would have compensated for this, well we hope so.

Well let's hope so. If it is the case, I am going to be very envious when the new model comes out. It should be more or less perfect.

    Did they mention output figures?

For people up at the reef a NA engine is actually disappointing news

Ja, sedert die begin '80's is daar al 'n duidelike ooreenkoms (behalwe in grootte) tussen die Suzuki SJ en Mercedes G

Low range will help. But itís still challenging to drive slowly off road with an engine that develops almost no torque at idle yet ALL itís torque at 2000rpm. Youíre either stalling or you have way more than you need and end up bouncing over everything.

Itís like having an on off switch when you really need a rotary dimmer.

Some people donít like buttons on the steering wheel. More donít like touch screens.

Iím definitely anti touch screen, I prefer a tactile button that stays in the same place.

Also, have you ever tried aiming for a touch screen button while driving

There is already a Jimny on the forum with a turbo - I think the guy has done a few already.
