    Default Richtersveld December 2017 advice

Hello, due to work changes we are looking at doing a last minute camping trip through the Richtersveld in December with a Disco 4 and camping.

Any advice on routes coming in from Upington side would be appreciated as well as any GPS tracks for my Garmin. We would like to do 4x4 trails along the Orange river where possible.

Recommended Campsites and places of interest would also be appreciated with contact details if possible.

We have about a week available excluding travelling there and back, dont want to pull a trailer or a caravan so vehicle and a surface dome tent.

    Thank you in advance

    The Richtersveld can be googled.

Their website gives all the information you require

For December I would not recommend Potjiespram campsite.
I would recommend De Hoop or Richtersberg.

Thank you @Hedgehog I have looked through the websites and noted the options, in my experience I dont always belief everything I read on google but I do trust the incite of the forum. I have some close mates who have done the trail but that was a while ago so I am more interested in current opinions as things change as I experience through my trip last December through Botswana.

    Agree with Kingjake.
At the sites mentioned you will be next to the river and will be able to cool off .................... and you will need to in December!

Wow that looks amazing, we will definitely stop for regular dips in the river to cool down thank you.

I find the heat quite manageable in December with the river nearby and the necessary precautions. What was a bigger problem was the wind that came up along the river. It can blow your coals away when braaing and put sand onto your meat. Try and pack in something to shelter the fire a little when braaing.

Heading up that way in June,

Does anyone know if you are allowed to bring a dog in with you?

If not, would they even know

It's a national park, no pets allowed. Even if you manage to get past the gate most camps have a ranger that keeps an eye. But seriously just stick to the rules...

Yeah for sure, I understand. Besides it being a national park though I was just curious as to why he thought it is such a bad idea

    It's like this.

Dogs like humans might seem healthy... but like humans they carry all sorts of germs and things.

Taking them into a protected area is just wrong..
