My car was also flashed and now the oil service is coming up on the 10000KM mark and not the usual 20000KM. At 90000KM they just wanted to reset it, but I decided to start doing the oil changes every 10K KM from now own. This is going to be my car first car going out of motorplan, but have the full warranty until May 2019.
There is no way on God's Green Earth that I would service the oil on a modern CRD every 20,000kms in ZA.

Your idea of 10,000kms is correct.

Default WKII 3.0 CRD Correct engine oil

I just now came back to this post by chance!

I hear all the arguments about our Jeeps not been fitted with DPF's and therefore do not need the Chrysler USA spec oil.

I assume that this Chrysler spec is partially to protect the DPF filters of USA models, but it must however also have something to do with better lubrication, as per my first post, where I mention that apparently the reason for this urgent oil upspec, is to prevent bearing damage. I am therefore sticking to Ravenol's NDT 5W-40, which complies 100% with Chrysler's material standards. Can't do any damage to non DPF vehicles and should be good for the engine. Why use any other oil, if the correct spec is available?

Swambo: 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 3.0 CRD Overland (Standard, but with 275/55/20 Yokohama Geolander GO15 tyres)

    Morning Chaps

My 2012 Grand Cherokee is due for its next service. I see on my history Jeep have always used a 5w 30, on the current quote they are suggesting SELENIA MULTIPOWER C3 at R352 per L

Did you chaps end up going with the 5w 40 or stick with the 5w 30?

I am a little torn, its run perfectly on the 5w 30, should i rock the boat

There are plenty of 5w30 oils around. What are the other specs it asks for?

Edit: sorry I see this was posted earlier in the thread.

BTW = who is "they" in this case?

    No worries man!

Looking back on the service history at Jeep Somerset West they used 5w30 and the quote for oil at Jeep Constantia is quoting the same

So are you going to service it at the dealers?

I dont think there is anything wrong with sticking to 5w30 but that price is a bit nuts.

I think I will take her to the dealers to retain the full dealer history but ask if I can supply my own oil...not sure what they will say about this though.

    Different vehicle, different engine.

The spec is "SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Low Ash Engine Oil meeting the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS- 11106 and approved ACEA C3". Anything beyond that borders on religious wars.

EDIT: I see that's until 2013. For completeness' sake, 2014+ spec: "SAE 5W-30 that meets FCA Material Standard MS-10902 and the API CJ-4 or ACEA E9/E7 or ACEA A3/B4".

Yes, but needn't be that R352/L nonsense. Ravenol and LiquiMoly should have something far better on the pocket. Ravenol's retail shop is in Obs, very nice bunch of people they are. Liqui Moly stuff is stocked by Goldwagen if I'm not mistaken. Both ought to be somewhere around R130ish/L if memory serves.

Liqui Molly is about R700 per 5l and it looks like i will need 9l. Thats R1400 apposed to the R3500 quoted at the dealer, just madness!

Whilst i am looking at all of this. How often would the auto box oil get changed, suppose i might as well look at diff oil at the same time. My jeep is a 2012 CRD with 65k on the clock.

    Thanks again guys
