Yes I know hence reason for my question, and they are not that expensive to install and makes maintenance a lot easier. You would just need something to kill off any biologics you don't want in the water and the filter should sort out the particles, you just change the sand sooner.

Have you considered trying to implement a simple aeration and pre-chlorination treatment to reduce your iron content?

    Something similar to this:

Hi, there are some very creative ways to use your pool , especially with the summer fire season approaching, recent reports indicate that you could use the pump setup to drive a fire protection system like they do in Nkandla..

Convert your pool to an eco pool: we did that a year ago. No chemicals, about a quarter to one third of the pool has plants in it (on floating rafts and in static pots), we added fish, the pump and filter are switched off and we aerate the pool using a single fish pond pump that spouts water out of a pipe into the air and then into the pool. The water is green, but clear, no greener than your average mountain stream, and perfectly drinkable without treatment. It means we have a 25 000 litre reservoir ready for when the stuff hits the fan.

Buy a tanker and fill people’s pools with seawater, you will make a killing.

I have the same issue. Ive ordered a well point, i to am in the Northern Suburbs. I plan to treat/purify the well point water then add to pool, seems pretty common.....will give feedback, but thats my POA at the moment.
