    Default Road to Macaneta

Some time ago someone wondered how the road to Macaneta looks: Now you can see it in the wet and dry!

When going in(the wet photos) there was a Bantam, Corsa and 1400 Datsun coming out, and when we left, there was a Polo Tdi with a trailer on the ferry with us...

Default The road to Macaneta !

As a regular visitor to Macaneta, I anticipated a rainy season. It was just a gut feeling and I was so convinced that I overextended my holiday budget by almost R 15000-00 to treat my Wrangler JK to a set of 35" Maxxis Bighorns. Well I'm not disappointed. They made me feel as if the Rubicon could really go anywhere. These 35" mud terrain tyres were made for the Macaneta road and side roads like the one to Incomati River Lodge, especilly the one travelling next to the river.
ps. Take note that I did not post any picture of me towing any Toyota 4x4's, , , , , , , ,

Default Macaneta road not for softies !

Hi, all you regular Macaneta fans,
I've been back this weekend for the first time since beginning of January, and must say that the rains of the past few months did not do this road any good. If you thought it was bad in Desember, you must experience it NOW. Due to lots of rain this year, no maintanance could be done and if the authorities should decide to grade the road before Easter and it rains, we will all be in for a 5 km long 4x4 mud challenge. It took me 35 minutes to travel the 5 km without a load or towing a trailer. In its dry condition, it is now a 4x4 trail, not a road. Leave your Bantam Bakkie at home next time you come.

I stayed at Tan-'n-biki on March 1. The condition is real bad. The gravel road from Maputo to Marraceunne is even worse . Had to turn back and took the EN1. Lost all drive to front wheels om my bakkie. Did the 5 km from ferry to camp and back in 2 wheel drive.

    Default Improvement !

I've been there last weekend and yes they are still working on the road. It is already about 40% better than before, I could avarage 30km/h on the entire stretch of 5,5km so I honestly think it will be almost a highway by December. Development is exploding on Macaneta with new camps opening almost monthly.
Will report back with photo's after coming school holidays.

Has anybody been to Macaneta recently? We are going this weekend and I would like to know what the road looks like please. It is just before the rainy season, so it should not be muddy.

Got back from Macaneta yesterday. The road from the ferry to the island is good - a 2 wheel drive car will manage. They upgraded it a lot. Don't know how it will be during heavy rain.
