Upgrade my car carrier

Been giving this a lot of though and I think I have the answer.

I have not been happy with the size of the bearings. Especially when I start loading heavy weights.

But upgrading to heavier axles is just an extremely expensive exercise. Axles, tyres, blades, the works.

So I was standing looking at the trailer and I think I have the answer. Just add a 3rd axle. Same size axle. Same size bearings. Same size tyres. Just 50% better carrying capacity.

Move the axles a tad forward and add the third axle behind them.

Braked axle R5,000
Rims R600
Tyres R1,000
Blades R600
Tow hitch R3,000

All in for R10,000

I like.

PS. At some later stage I will go with air springs. Then I can drop the trailer using the air springs as well.

I have no clue from a technical perspective , but the trailers that they use in the U.K. Seem to be based on three very small axles. Think ifor is the most popular brand. Used for towing landys all over the place, so perhaps not a bad solution.
Those of a more mechanical inclination may have a different view.
I guess as long as you dr be according to conditions you should be fine.

Axle will be ordered tomorrow.

Then I need to flip this trailer and start cutting thing loose.

Maybe at some later stage, I can chuck all the blades, but 1 and fit some air springs.

I love doing this kind of stuff.

PS. I made a mistake on the length of the axle. So how do I delete the one file? Length must be 2200 not 2225. (In the part no)

Have cut the a-frame loose.
Have cut all the brackets for attaching the blade springs loose.
Collected all my bits and bobs.
Hopefully reassemble the trailer tomorrow, with 3 axles.
Then redo all the wiring.
Connect up the brakes.
Fresh coat of paint.

Will post tonight. Didn't have my camera with me yesterday. And the camera on the phone is just plain pathetic.

Today the measuring starts. Measure 3 times, cut once...

Did all the measurements and a centre line.
Today I need to be in Pta. So tomorrow clean for welding.
Then weld it all back together.
Actually working out nicely.

Yes, for now. If I need more brakes, juat switch out another for a braked axle.

Lyk goed Henris , wil net weet hoekom sit jy die rem as in die middel , sal die rem as nie meer effektief wees waneer dit heel voor is ? Ek kan verkeerd wees, maar logika kan die rem as heel voor meer traksie kry waneer die vrag vorentoe le tydens n rem aksie, ek self het n 3,5 Ton dubbel as sleepwa gebou 5,5 meter lank en het 4 x bladvere op elke as geinstaleer dit maak die wa baie sterker en het op myne n free axell agter en die rem as voor. Ek sal n foto van myne op laai

Ek het air springs in die Troopie, so ek level daarmee die vrag. Ook is die opstel van due vere is vir omtrent 3.5ton.

Het maar in die middel gesit want daar is die meeste kans dat daardie as op die grond sal wees. As hy voor is en ek het net afgelaai, is daar kans dat die vrag op daardie as te min is. Dan kan die wiele sleep wanneer ek rem. Dan kan ek flat spots kry.

Maar sal maar sien of dit 'n probleem is. Sal maar monitor.
