Departure angle.

As ek 'n winch opsit, gaan ek seker 1m op die trailer moet by sit.

Paar sleutel punte in hierdie trailer.
    Kort as moontlik.
    Sterk as moontlik.
Laag as moontlik. Ground clearance 270mm. Op 14" rims, 310mm
    Vrag verspryding oor 6 wiele.

Trailer is still disassembled and upside down.

Touched up the bottom with stone chip where I needed to.
Put the yellow, red and white stickers on.

Today I want to sort out the mudguards.
I have split them and will now put a solid plate over the top, that will bridge the gap.
    Then stick the tape.
    Then mask the tape.
    Then stone chip.

Then the wiring. If all goes well, she will be ready to work, before the weekend.

    Lyk baie mooi.

More gou al die sweiswerk klaar maak. Laaste stone chip verf. Dan bedrading.

I can't make up my mind.

On the previous setup, I just had 2 pieces of shutter board fastened down for a flat deck.

But now I am thinking of some toolboxes. Especially one in the nose to house the ramps and the straps. Another for the hi-lift jack and the spare wheel. Just a recessed angle frame, lined with shutter board. I want to stick to the wood, as it doesn't add that much to the final weight of the trailer and the trailer retains is flex.

The flex in the trailer is the success story. On stripping it down, no cracks.

Why would it have cracked? What tests did you do? What design stress did your designer work to?

Normally the guys build a trailer with all sorts of bracing on the sides. I looked at big trailers and they have I beams. So I went the I beam route. So if it wants to flex, let it. Don't try and keep it rigid. That is when the fatigue sets in and it snaps.

I saw that on the big trailers as well. Look at all the flex that is built into a lowbed.

    Calling on the clever guys.

What if I up the spring tension on the centre axle and also up the wheel size.

When it is empty, it will run on 1 axle. Braking will also be better on that axle.

When loaded, that axle and wheel will carry more, but the tyres and the axle is designed for more.
Will also make it friendlier to push around by hand, when parking it.

It’s definitely the right tactic, this is what I do for my crust, was just wondering what tests you’d done to know it wasn’t going to fatigue.

No nothing. Just common sense. I have seen when and where trailers fatigue and crack. So I just tried to avoid all those scenarios.

Everybody looked at me funny when I fitted the I beams, but now I see that it was the right route.

Here are some pictures with a Ranger. 3.2 auto 4x4. All of 1,960kg.

The different pictures show the different angles I can load at. Specifically so I can load a LR that is in limp mode.
