You realize that Sony have withdrawn from the SA market, and thus there will be no support if something goes wrong?

I understand the Nikon J1 series is very good for movie work, and should be considerably cheaper than an A7, although pretty scarce here in SA.
It is also much more versatile as there is an adapter which allows you to use pretty much any Nikon lens in existance.

Interestingly I was chatting to 2 fellows a month ago. They happened to mention that they had just completed the deal to bring Sony back to SA. So yes Sony will be back with support very shortly

I have Sony a7 and kit... they are remarkably good pieces of kit. You can get accessories... but you have to shop around. That price is good the condition is right.

I recently bought a Panasonic Lumix GX7 used. This guy used it solely for video making. Maybe you can look at a similar unit as it is not so expensive.

The low-light performance of the sensor is better, no doubt.
But (or because) the sensor is a lot larger, and therefore the DOF is a lot shallower. By the time you have stopped down to get similar DOF, the advantage of the larger/better sensor is all but gone...

A7ii for 17k sounds almost too good to be true. What is included? Sony lenses are expensive but you do get converters for the a-series that allows almost any lens to be used.

If initial cost is an issue, I'd rather go for a Canon body. Lenses are cheap and available everywhere secondhand. Look at the EOS 77D ....

This is such an interesting time for photography... I think mirrorless cameras are going to completely take over the market from DSLRs in the next few years. The biggest thing for me is being able to check your exposure in the view finder before pressing the button!? Amongst other things..

But I also think we're a few years away from the technology being perfected. So right now, money not being an issue, the Nikon D850 is stunning. For video, the Sony's are unbelievable, the A9 seems to be the pre-cursor for the best camera ever. But it's just not quite there yet. So, decisions.... Get the best now, or compromise based on your current needs like most people have to do?

For my personal needs, I'm invested in Canon glass. So maybe I'll wait for them to get their at together. OR, if my ship arrives in the meantime, I'll probably switch to Nikon. And then in a few years time, when Sony launches a lot of great lenses I'll be sorry and then Canon catches up with their sensors etc....

I'm really impressed with this 7Sii - iso goes to somewhere in the 400 000's.......... Daughter's filming bands in clubs - like daylight with GREAT quality.
