Wink Q - Old yellow SOS telephone post along N1

So, yesterday while traveling past Three Sisters, it only now dawned on me, that they removed the those old yellow SOS telephone post along the N1.

When did they remove them and why?

Hope my Q, doesn't reflect my age.

I think they were mostly used in the day’s before cell phones were common place.

They probably assume everyone has a cell phone these days.

I suspect they were removed as they expect everyone to be carrying a fully charged cell phone... not sure what you're supposed to do if your phone is flat or you are one of the 0.00087835% (yes I made that statistic up) of the population that doesn't have a cell.

Also only recently realized they are gone. Glad i never needed to use one but never got to see the other side of them.
