Yes please let us know the weekend you got planned. Just a question that I thought of, what is the safety/crime like for these trips especially if going alone.

yes please! please advise on dates looking at the response rate its going to be popular.

We have something to a similar effect here in the usutu forests in Swaziland- no accomodation just possible driving if you obtain permission and register from the plantation.
Entry is subject to the severity of the fire danger on the day - I guess this is the main risk of allowing campers into commercial forests

Has the Prospectors Trail been closed? No offence meant, but if I was backpacking, the last thing that I would want to see is a bunch of people in 4x4s taking over the facilities at my overnight stop...

    Wow

The last time I was granted access to drive the forestry roads in the Sabie area was in 2005/6 I think, and the Tzaneen area back in around 95 and only with special permission, and only for a specified period. On the roads we took 4x4 was a requirement the roads were that bad.

They were some of the best off road routs we used, with the best scenery, and outlook points.

It would be great to visit again

    Edit:

We camp in the bush when allowed.

    Hi guys , again !

We are aiming to host a demo weekend on the long weekend of 22 to 25 September coupled with a big braai to end off the weekend at the Pilgrims Hut .

Any feedback from this weekend will be evaluated to see what is needed , what is not needed , what the guys are looking for and to establish permanent routes . We will have a number of forests drives and well as canyon drives for the more technical off road work with selected stop over and pic nic sites along the route .

The weekend will be made up of the following .

1 ) Numerous back packing routes available on all sites with excellent bird watching available .
2 ) Forest drives as well as canyon drives .
3 ) Camping facilities at all sites , or rental of a hut .
4 ) Community braai to close the weekend with .
5 ) Fun games and driver and co driver challenges .
    6 ) Prize giving

So get the roof top tents , the off road caravans and your equipment ready for a great weekend . Please NOTE THAT WE DO NOT control the weather , so if it rains we STILL GO ON , the muddier the better !

Any feedback on accommodation and camping needs will also be evaluated .

As for the security and safety issue questions by a number of members here we have to stress the following . In close to 25 years of operation of these properties and eco sites there have been NOT ONE incident of crime , attacks or similar recorded . Pilgrims Hut in town is a different story as it is situated in town yet very private and lends it self to greater feel of security and safety . We also have to stress that we do live in South Africa and NO guarantees can be made with regards to safety at these sites . We still urge visitors to travel in groups or groups with a minimum of two vehicles to ensure safety , only as a precaution though .

These sites are remote and finding them is not easy , if you do not know where they are . Crystal Springs is near by and they have not reported any incidents as yet .

Please respond if you want to book .

@ ADMIN ... please respond to our message regarding commercial advertising , we do not want to use the forum without the proper channels being followed !

    Regards ,

    Jean

We are not catering for " back packing overnighters " as we used to , a very limited market these days .

Keep in mind that if such visitors are present they need to pre book and we will not allow 4x4 events / weekends to coincide with such visitors .

I will keep you posted in Prospectors .

    Sounds good Jean.

    Cost involved?

So the base where we set up camp will be IN Pilgrims Rest town at Pilgrims Hut? (sorry if I misunderstand you)

No , and yes . The base will be at Pilgrims but three huts in the forests are available . Morgenzon , Excelsior and Black Hill for camping or accommodation .

Remember , these huts have water and sanitation ONLY ,AND NO ELECTRICITY , Pilgrims all amenities .
