Default Misubishi Experts, help on SCV please. What have I done?

    Hi all

As I posted in the Sport thread, I did the 160K service and changed the diesel filter. I was careful to purge as much air out of the system before I reconnected the outlet pipe. Any way the vehicle started on first crank after that.

Now (yesterday and today) i'm getting the surging that i believe to be caused by the SCV. At first all terrible thoughts race through your mind. -- is the oil grade correct? is the oil filter correct? the ATF looks a bit brown!! Did that pipe i fiddled with at the oil cooler blow off and lose all the oil? is the Turbo on the way out?...etc..

Anyways after i googled symptoms of SCV sticking problems and watched a short you tube video, I'm fairly convinced that this is the cause. The question is why suddenly after the service?

The diesel I poured out of the filter looked clean and the filter was changed at 140k service. I didn't let the pump run dry. is this just a bad coincidence or have I done something wrong?

What is the recommended repair? I'm a bit strapped for cash, so is cleaning and rotating the valve the best option for now. I also saw on at Aussie forum that the valve is supposed to match the pump.

Any advice please. What can I use to clean the valve e.g carb cleaner and what precautions must be taken.

PS I filled up at my usual stop at Starstop Midrand so i'm hoping diesel quality is not the cause.

The SCV can just go at any point. They seem to last about 100 000km to 150 000km at most (in my experience).

I don't think driving with the current SCV will cause any damage - its just annoying.

So when you have the funds, replace it. Do you know what the part number is? I got an original one from Thailand for my Pajero Gen 4 for about R1000.

My Pajero is on 215 000km and I'm about to fit my 2nd SCV.

    Hi Greg

    Thanks for the reply,
Mitsubishi Centurion just quoted me R5300 for the SCV and R31 050 for the injector pump.

So I guess its clean it first and hope.

PS I couldn't get a clear shot with my cell camera , but the numbers are xxxA022 and 0-0661 above the QR code. Will have to try a better angle

    Hi

I also replaced my SCV last week at 132000KM,
I got a new SCV from nissan in haftield for R1615.00 (if memory serves)
the numbers matched to the scv on the pajero sport.
    Denso SCV
    part number: 1460A0360
    number on the SCV: 294200-0360

    Denso pump:
    SM294000-0661
    1460A022

    the nissan SCV partnumber: A6860-VM09A

you can have a look at the following website:
    http://www.dieselpartsdirect.co.uk/s...-scv-kit_2.htm

I also tried the clean it and turn it around, did not work for me, made it actually worse!

    hope this helps.

I still need to do the ECU relearn,

    regards

For a new SCV, an ECU relearn (or actually an injector small quantity relearn) doesn't seem to be required. It isn't indicated the the workshop manual.

I didn't do it and it was fine. Guys in AUS also don't notice any difference before and after the relearn.

My part numbers for the pump and SCV on my Pajero Gen4 are different to what Raymondh posted. Probably cause it is not a Pajero Sport.

Raymondh - Are you sure the SCV part number is correct? I think it has too many numbers...

Backroads - Why do you need a new pump? Are you getting any error codes? Did they remove and test the pump?

    Thanks Raymond

It seems the numbers i took picture of must be on the pump itself.

I will check the SCV later.

i'm glad to hear that Nissan are a lot cheaper.. Will check out that link you sent me,

    Many Thanks

    Hi Greg

The agent at Centurion threw the price in for the pump, as if I would rater change that than the valve.!

Do you guys reckon that this is pure coincidence or is it because the diesel filter is either supplying more (or less pressure )? I took the GUD out and replaced with a Champion. I'm pretty sure i didn't introduce dirt in the pipe.

    Many thanks

I too have bought the Denso part from Nissan.
Although I had a return of the surge after only 10000km. Funnily enough it went away after a couple of km's and hasn't returned as of yet.
I can only assume dirty diesel caused it. Yours being quite old it could be the problem though and not just a once off thing.

the numbers on scv is engraved on the top of the unit.
see my picture, had to remove the battery and battery box to take a decent picture.

the main number seems to be the 0360.
the one I got from nissan also was 0360.

the numbers on the pump is on a black sticker with a QR code, as the other picture attached, this is not my unit, I could not get my phone is close enough for a decent picture.

There is a small mesch filter inside the pump that also protects any foreign matter from reaching the SCV. I agree probably just coincidence that the scv went when it did.
