Default R364 ? Calvinia to Clanwilliam thru Doringbos

Hi i would like to know if anyone travelled that piece of road recently ? My plan is to travel from Fochville to Velddrift. The last time i wanted to use that road but looked bad due to rain wash, so i had to turn around. It is a gravel road. Can i travel on that road by car or do i need a bakkie or 4x4 ?
    Thanks in advance.

Dana Snyman travelled that road with a Nissan 1400 bakkie not long ago, was shown in his program Op Pad on Via.

we drove it the past long weekend ,and drove it on our way to the kgalagadi ,you can drive it ,the road is is not the first right turnoff just outside calvinia the r355 but the second one onwards to nieuwoudtville ,the r364,nice road through the botterkloof pas ,and gets tar to clanwilliam ,then you must decide witch road to veldrif ,

    doornbos i dont know

    it must be left turnoff

    Hi All

I am planning to head up to Calvinia on Saturday via this road, would it be safe to assume no major changes in road conditions from ~1 month ago till now?

    Anyone drove it more recently?

    Thanks

Should be perfectly OK, did not have much rain in that area in recent times.

You should be ok, not much rain in that area recently. But, you should have been in Calvinia last weekend, it was the Vleisfees.

We drove it 2 weeks ago, and was fine There was only one very corrugated section, that was about 1km or 2km long, just at the bottom of the one pass where the gravel started (3203'36.9"S 1909'54.8"E). Once you are past that, its pretty smooth sailing.

I drove that route not long ago, be aware of 2 things, there is no cellphone reception, make sure your spare is inflated and your jack works, I lost a tyre and was in the dwang ( Disco 2 )

    Thanks, always a good tip.

Any idea what caused the puncture? What were your tyre pressures?

Probably a sharp stone, I was travelling too fast - had tyres at normal pressures.

End of last year that road was in a BAD condition !!!

You needed excessive speed to stay on top of the corrugations .... and then needed to dodge rocks in the roadway ..... We turned around, and did it the long tar way round.

Week later a friend did it in his Prado .... he was happy with the condition of the road (not sure if it was graded inbetween)

Hopefully one of the locals can provide current information on that road.

78 km gravel, from the Wupperhal turnoff to R27. I don't know what the current condition is.

Good day fellow forum members - considering driving the R364 from Nieuwoudtville to Clanwilliam in December - any update on the road condition? Also considering the Oorlogs kloof road from Nieuwoudtville to join up with the R364 in stead of the R27 - is this a nice scenic road to take?

Beautiful road that. Good gravel road and last section is tar.
Your alternate route is also a nice road to take. Went through there a couple of months ago.
