    Question Varta Blue Dynamic

    Hi Guys,

Think it's time to change the Disco's battery.
Phoned Deltec and they stock the Varta Blue Dynamic as it replaced the Silwer Dynamic range as I was told.
Blue is better suited for the African climate etc.

Any of you maybe using this currently on your D3's?
The battery in question is a 100Ah, 720CCA, H3. Will it have enough juice for the Disco?

The VARTA H3 had been discussed many times and is an accepted battery in the application of the D3. As per Mr Bosch, just give it a charge every couple of months.

    Do you have a TDV6?

The original battery has 950 cca.
I ran a battery for two years rated at 850 cca, no issues.

    Hi Marcus D90 and 2befree

The important issue for SA applications is NOT the CCA but the AH rating. Tendency in the recent past here in SA has been to space the plates further apart, which is preferable in hot climate applications. A trade off will be a reduction in CCA, but not an issue in the TDV6. I have now switched to the Varta I1 on the FFRR as it has a higher AH rating and it just fits.

    Good luck!

The difference between CCA and AH is the ability to deliver high current when you really need it vs the ability to deliver lower currents or total energy over extended periods.

On a biggish diesel engine in cold weather I will take CCA over AH any day. And if you live in parts of the Free State, Natal Midlands, Standerton, etc, that would be my choice. Its not called Cold Cranking Amps for nothing.

But George is 100% correct, for the D3, unless you live at Tiffendale, for most of us that battery is perfect.

My stupid point being that some areas in our country can actually be very testing. Be aware. If in doubt go OEM.
