    Default 2003 ml 500

    Hey there,

Guys, I need some advice please.

I really really want to buy the above mentioned car, I havent owned a ML before, but i did have a C270 CDi. The best car of my very long list.

I can get the ML for a very good price, there is a few concerns

    1) P0715 error the sensor in the transmission, and limited to 2nd gear.

    2) I know these cars can handle high milage, or am i wrong?

    3) Cost of above repair and ongoing maintenance.

The car seems in a good condition, its far from me so I havent been able to go and have a look. And the other dilemma would be to get it to Cape Town

I just need some advice, my heart says YES!!!

The clock says 550000km, but the first owner replaced the speedo with a second hand one.

    No service history

    No accidents

    Merc

At 35k it's understandably very tempting, I agree.

    But a 550kkm+ GL 500 with a stuck gearbox, quite honestly, I wouldn't touch.

Not only the engine has 550kkm on it.......the gearbox, diffs, props, radiator, aircon, and a zillion other parts.

The electric seat motors, the sunroof........EVERYTHING. Even the ignition key.

Good luck, maybe this is a bargain and I'm totally wrong.

But rather look at a 200 - 250kkm ML 500 with FSH etc etc, at around R 100k or so.

High Risk should equal High Reward, and a reconned Merc 500 with God knows how many miles on it is hardly a High Reward, even if you spend a million bucks on it......it will ALWAYS be just that, a reconned ML 500 with dunno how many wear and tear on it.

    Just some questions from my side;

    1. Did you look at the Natis certificate to see if it is a code 3 vehicle?

    2. Does it come with a Road Worthy Certificate?

    3. Do you have extra funds to fix the vehicle to put it through road test if above question ends up to be no.

Petri thank you very much for you advice and opinion, I will take in everything that was said and decide.

Heinrich, the ML is not a code 3and no there is not a RWC

I just had the gearbox speed sensor in my 2006 ML (W164) replaced at R23k, its a common Merc problem on most models and it will probably be more or less the same for the W163.
