Problem: Blown head gasket & 3 injectors needed overhaul.
Cause of problem(if known): No idea. Poor fitment at factory? Dirty diesel leading to damaged injectors and thus lean running? I cannot get a definitive answer.
Specifics of repair work carried out: New head gasket and overhaul of injectors.
Cost of repair: R33,500-00

Problem: Hand brake cable failure
Cause of problem(if known): Unknown
Specifics of repair work carried out: Replaced one of the two short cables (RHS) that go to the back wheels
Cost of repair: R450

Note, there is a difference between the older Thar (pre 2015 ish) and the newer "refresh" model. The older one uses a Bolero hand brake cable that is a single long one that is shared between both rear wheels, with a loop mechanism in the middle. The newer models like mine use two separate shorter cables from each rear wheel to the central mechanism.

Spares were no problem, and the work was not complicated at all.

Specifics of repair work carried out: Had propshaft rebuild - new spline section installed, and replaced universals

Info: Turns out the propshaft parts are all off the shelf Dana and Spicer parts. No issues with availability. :-)

2010 Thar 10200 km
Handbrake not working properly if at all after many attempts to fix, not going on 4x4 tracks because of it.
Alternator packed up, replaced with Nissan 2.5 diesel alt, only put the old pulley on - perfect fit.
Replaced seats.
For the rest, no problems.!

Hey there! I'm thinking about buying a 2010 Mahindra Thar as a second-hand vehicle with less than 100,000 km on it. Can you share your thoughts or experiences? What should I look out for, and do you think it's a good buy in this condition?

I have a Mahindra Scorpio S11 Adventure 2022. My big frustration and problem is that the 245/65 17 inch tyres on rims that it was sold with do not fit in the spare wheel space. The centre hole in the rim's diameter is too small and the 245 is also too big (spare wheel 235/65 17). I had to travel 1000km with flat tyre in cabin before I could get to a place to repair the tyre. I am happy to change to 235/65 tyres but the centre hole is a problem.

Apart from this I am very happy with the vehicle.
