    Default mahindra problems

    2005v scorpio 2.6 glx
31000km ac compressor sized- Honde nst repaired R13900-00
32000km waterpump bearing collapse-workshop in town repaired R2500-00
32000km ignition broke, bought secondhand ignition from scrapyard R750-00

Bought vehicle a year ago with 31000km on, have not driven much as I did nt have the time. Bought it fior the kruger park. I think the ac and water pump problem is that after 5 years it only done 31000km. Further I enjoy it very much, fuel consumption in Sabie area with mountains is +- 10-22km p litre. Enough space. I like the new auto one, may be that will be the next buy.

Problem: Gear sticky between 1ste gear and 2nd gear. Took it this morning to Mahindra service center in Centurion. It turn out the car is on a list (recall) for changing/replacing some pipes around the gearbox. hopefully this is the only problem.

To Mahindra: Thank you for not calling me to bring in the car to replace the pipes. How whould I not know?

(p.s. they opend a warranty card, so I'm not paying.)

Problem: The break booster stopped working.
Cause of problem(if known): Not known
Specifics of repair work carried out: The booster had to be replaced. After I tried a few second hand parts, of which none would fit I resorted to just buying a new booster.

Who did the repair: BenSA Performance & Maintenance in Centurion
Vehicle under warranty, Y/N: Extended warranty
Was damage covered by warranty: They paid R4000 towards the repairs, thus only covering the part.

Problem: rev counter stopped working and there was no battery charge until high revs were reached
Cause of problem(if known): loose plug at back of alternator
Specifics of repair work carried out: plug reconnected
    Cost of repair:NA

Rev counter would only work when high revs were reached and eventually just stopped working all together. Alternator would also only charge once high revs were reached.

Called the dealer and they had me checking on the gearbox! I eventually found a loose polug on back of alternator. Reconnecting this plug fixed all the above mentioned problems.

Dealer wanted to sell entire shaft for R10k. I was able to source half a shaft for R2k and then make up one good shaft.

    Model: Scorpio SC 4x4
    Year:2007
    Mileage:227 000
Problem:dust cover seal on right front CV shaft
Cause of problem(if known): lost seal while replacing CV
Specifics of repair work carried out: New seal installed
    Cost of repair: R120
    Who did the repair: Me
    Vehicle under warranty, Y/N: N
Was damage covered by warranty: N

I lost the seal when I repaired my damaged CV. The seal didn't fit correctly and required a stanley blade to carefully shave the inside rubber to fit. I naturally avoided 4x4ing while it was missing. Vehicle doing great off road since CV and seal repair.

Cost of repair: R1350 incl postage

These hubs are extremely expensive. About R6500-R7000 each!!

Your best bet if you cannot find a second hand one is to buy manual locking hubs for about R1100 for both sides. In my case I bought a set of manual lockers for a person and he then gave me his auto locking hubs.
