I purchased a Mahindra Scorpio 2.5 NEF s/c Pre-owned from Mahindra Centurion in August 2012, Under Warranty with 29100km on the Odometer. This is my first Mahindra, of a fleet of 4, with the other vehicles being Ford Rangers, Single and Super Cabs.

    • It is now October 2012. I have completed 37000km to date in the vehicle. Only Driven by me since it purchase at 29100km

    • October 2012 –

    • Upon hand over of the vehicle on my Journey to Mthatha from Pietermaritzburg, I heard the turbo reaching a high pitched squeal at 2900-3100rpm. Concerned I phoned Rauten Vorster and asked him to confirm if this is normal. He suggested, when I get to Mthatha I get it checked, but it "usually does do that". I am still yet to confirm this and would like this is writing prematurely should something occur untoward with the Turbo. I have 4 vehicles that do not do this. I would like a Head Office confirmation of this.
    • October 2012 - Secondly - I noticed the steering wheel had a horrible noise to it when on gravel roads - I took it to Mahindra Mthatha, who diagnosed a problem with the steering mechanism and were delayed in getting the Part because "of the Transport Strike". Granted, I will go and get this fitted and see the difference when the vehicle is available for repair.

    • November 2012 –
    • After a few weeks, the clutch and the accelerators made a squeaking noise every time I depressed them and which they still do. I went to Mahindra at the same time regarding the steering mechanism, and asked them to rectify this. They said to me that this was normal. I then said to Nishen, Parts and Service Department Head, to allow me to see if a new Mahindra Scorpio on the showroom floor did this to which I demonstrated very clearly that this was not a "Part and parcel" of the a vehicle from Mahindra. Nishen vehemently stated that there is nothing they can do about it

    • October 2012
    • Next issue - Upon receipt of the vehicle from Mahindra Centurion, I noticed that the left fog lamp on the vehicle - the actual Lamp and bracket (Not the covering glass, the interior where the bulb and bracket fit) was missing, I promptly phoned Rauten, with him stating that as soon as I get to Mthatha, I phone Mahindra Mthatha and tell them to order a new one as this is under warranty. I still do not have a fog lamp 2.75 Months Later and I am now told by Nishen at Mahindra Mthatha that I will have to purchase a new one. This was noticed not more than 300km into my trip and it was confirmed that the vehicle is under warranty!
    • Next issue - On the right hand side of the front bumper - a bracket has snapped at the 90 degree bend. It is a flat 1mm bar, that I received the vehicle in this state. It is easily notifiable that this has been a wear and tear issue, and that it has not been bent or damaged or tampered with in any way. Nishen from Mthatha requested that this be an issue that they cannot just weld, because they do not have an approved "MAHINDRA WELDER"

    • January 2013
    • the vehicle broke down twice, because there was dirt in the fuel tank. I had to get the vehicle towed, and had the tank removed and cleaned out by Buffalo Toyota at a cost of R1500.00 for labour.

    • March 2013
    • A fuel gauge that was not working and has only appreared to have been fixed under the duty of the replacement of the Fuel tank (See August 2013), which has caused me endless loss of work time and profit from the vehicle because the fuel gauge was not working which caused my business time in towing vehicle.

    • June 2013
    • I have also had the 4x4 mechanism lock into place and cannot drive it engaged. After an eventual luck and the 4x4 mechanism disengaging, the Green light remained on for some 10 days. All of this has been addressed with Sheldon from Union Diesel Queenstown.
    • June 2013 - The handbrake at one stage had dislodged from the pulley system, something which has never ever happened to any of my other vehicles. These are just the continual frustrations and lack of business downtime I have had with this vehicle, and as I recall each incident, Union Diesel Queenstowns workshop will vouch for my frustrations.
    • July 2013
    • A fuel Tank that has cracked. This was replaced by Mahindra Queenstown, but loss of business profit through this, as the vehicle was away for a week, commencing 12/08/2013
    • The Tie Rod Ends have had to be replaced which a company called Fit Rite installed for me.

    • August 2013 –
    • The radio is not working - Since I received it back from Mahindra Queenstown for the replacement of the fuel tank (16.08.2013)
    • August 2013 - The airconditioner is not working - Since I received it back from Mahindra Queenstown for the replacement of the fuel tank (16.08.2013)
    • August 2013 - The Water Pump is now not working as of today (21.08.2013). My staff are sitting in Idutywa whilst on their way to Butterworth for work. Additional loss of business profits. I have spoken to Mahindra Queenstown and the response was that they can’t do anything about it because they have no-one there to travel out. I have staff in Idutywa, I have a broken Water pump that if driven will overheat the engine and the consequences are dire, and I have lost one business day.
    • August 2013 - The clutch has collapsed and I had to replace it in Mthatha at Marks Motors, outside of the warranty because Mahindra closed down here, and they also state that after two years their roadside assistance becomes null and void and it would have cost me R4500 for a low bed to transport the vehicle to Queenstown (the closest dealership) (also apparently not under warranty for more than 15,000km or near to that). It cost me R2866.60 for a new clutch and R2223 in labour to install the new clutch (R5089 in Total). So the Vehicle was back on the road in one working day. Should the vehicle have gone to Queenstown, it would have taken a day to get there (Money lost), R6900 in Parts and Labour (quoted by Mahindra Queenstown) and R4500 in towing. R5089 against R11,000. In any businessman’s mind, a significant saving of R6000 and reduced downtime in work hours would make sense.

Problem: Fuel gauge not working properly. The fuel gauge get stuck on empty for several minutes before it starts rising a bit only to get stuck again. It can take up to 30 minutes for the gauge to finally show the assumed correct level of fuel in the tank.
Cause of problem(if known): First attempt at fixing the problem was to replace the float level in the tank. This did not solve the problem and the vehicle must go back again for repairs on this.
Specifics of repair work carried out: Replacement of tank float level. Did not solve the problem.

Cause of problem(if known): Suspected faulty wiring.

Reported the problem again and was told the problem was resolved during the 10,000km service. This is not the case and the vehicle needs to go back for further repairs.
