Problem: Cam Shaft Snapped in Three travelling @ 80km/h (temp fine)
Cause of problem(if known): After argument with engineer, the Cylinder Head and Indeed not buckled because of Overheating, which then snapped Cam. What happened was the bolt on the Chain guide had come loose causing the Chain to Jam in turn snapping the Cam. Bolt went right through Timing Casing and ended safely in sump, no gears were damaged luckily.
Specifics of repair work carried out: Parts would have been; Cylinder Head R9900 (Dealer), Complete Gasket Set R2500 (Dealer), Rings R1100 (Dealer), Mains R450 (Dealer), Big Ends R450 (Dealer), Timing Chain (Single Chain) R850 (Dealer), Chain Guides + Tensioner R850 (Dealer), Chain Sprockets R1450 (Dealer), Clutch Overhaul R1300 (CHE) , Injectors Recon R1300 (Bosch), Cost R21 000 Labour Excluded. So Im getting a Jap Import 2.8tdi for R11000, will be going to Boksburg myself next week to inspect, test and choose my new engine.

It was interesting to see that at nearly 300000km the engine has never been opened before, I remember asking the Dealer when will I have to change the Timing Chain and I was specifically assured that I will hear a sound from the engine and then know its time. If I perhaps followed my instinct the damage would not have been so costly, but either way im very impressed with my Colt and will definately be replacing my Mitsu with another one...

I had a chassis wash done at Sparkling Auto in Centurion on Old Joburg road. Really impressed. They put your car on a proper lift to get underneath. They use a pressure cleaner. Sometimes cold water only, sometimes cold water with soap, sometimes hot water. All squeeks gone.
