Problem: Surging/starving then later engine light coming on.
Cause of problem(if known): Don't think Mitsubishi knows what finally fixed the problem
Specifics of repair work carried out: Swapped R65k worth of parts (everything between head gasket to fuel pump) with "problem free" Triton - problem much, much worse. Later found that manifild gasket leaked (on Colt's you could re-use them, not on Tritons). This made major improvement but back to square one. Replaced square-ended fuel pump nozzle with tapered/rounded nozzle. Problem improved not gone. Widened air intake as it is the same as 2.5d intake. Whole repair took 13 visits in 12 months. When finally requested replacement vehicle they put car on computer to show all paramater readings and car has been perfect since this!!!! The engine light came on. Casue: Blocked barometric pressure sensor hose - same as 2.5d elsewhere in this section.

Problem: Car would start easily and then come to a spluttering death about 30 seconds later. Difficult to start when at normal operating temperature.
Cause of problem(if known): Problems carried over from engine failure and rebuild 1. Replaced glowplugs (twice) , 2. Replace fuel filter
Actual cause was worn diesel pump, leaking primer pump and damaged fuel lines. The replacement unit I bought was also badly worn.
Specifics of repair work carried out: Reconned and calibrated diesel pump, replaced primer pump, replaced fuel feeder lines, cleaned diesel tank, fuel pick-ups and all the lines. Checked and reset injectors. Complete test hot and cold start and running. To be dyno'ed next week (Got it offered free so why not).
Cost of repair: Complete diesel pump rebuild - R2 950
Primer pump (new from Mitsu) R665
    All the rest - R 1 400 (luckily I could trade in my 2nd pump for R1000)
