    Default Calling all GP zooks

    Hi All
please see the calling all natal zooks thread about doing a long weekend trip over leshoto. Either we can meet them in natal head up sani and cross the escapment or they meet us here and we drive over and down sani.
Any thoughts. I know there was a mention of doing baboons as well.

Default RE: Joining the KZN guys.

Depending on the date and the duration, you could tentatively count me in. Was planning on going up Sani next year one final time before they tar it anyway.

Speaking from past experience, Baboons is a trip on it's own. Did it back in April 2004 in a coily Samurai I owned at the time. Did 25km in 3 days and some larger veicle took a serious beating. It was fun.... I think I remember this correctly, or was it fun.... not so sure now.

My current "Little Zook" is dying for some action.

    Keep me in the loop.

I'm keen to do this trip too.

Eric, do you reckon a stock Jimny will do Baboon's pass, or should I take the SJ?

Last time I did Baboons, it was in my '97 coily Samurai, which is identical underneath to your Jimny except for the air activated front diff system.

The coily Samurai that was available in some markets (including SA) from '96 to '98 was the foundation on which the current Jimny range was build.

When I did the trip, my vehicle was the only one not to be damaged or get any punctures. However, on the Jimny that front bumper, and the relatively low side sills are a problem.... a big problem.

As such, I would say no, take the old SJ, then you wont need any cosmetic surgery when you get back.

I hope we get this organised. Could be a bash .... excuse the pun...

I think I'll skip on this trip for a year or two. Having a look at a couple of other threads on this forum, that trail just received some really bad publicity.

Given the current issue with Baboons, I am inclined to agree.

But remember that Baboons Pass is a serious grade 4-5 trip, depending on the weather, and not really a "social" family outing. It is more of an expidition.

But there is more to Lesotho than that. We could do a more social "site seing" orientated trip of 4-5 days without even going near Baboons Pass, and still have some serious low range fun.

I could willing put forward a route suggestion or two if anyone is interested.

    Any takers?
    Eric

Count me in as well, I have been meaning to do this for a while, just been very busy at work not even had time to sort out the fuel injection on the new 1600 16v but this week should be better. Baboons I think should be a dedicated trip as mentioned.
