My old man has a 2007 model that he has owned from new, currently on about 240k. There was an issue in the beginning with oil use which Toyota seemed to have fixed (too long ago, can't remember sorry). He recently had the steering rack replaced, but all in all a reliable vehicle.

I would like to bring this thread back.

My 2009 200 now has 190000km on the clock, I replaced the turbos but that was due to bad tuning, also replaced the intercooler other then that it hasn’t cost much. Just did a 5000km trip through Namibia and it ran perfectly.

How long are these Cruisers good for until injectors, engines, gearboxes or diff’s become unreliable or bottom line leaving us stranded and costing in repairs?

Can you buy a 200 with 200000km on it or will it be too risky?

    Anyone with high mileage cruisers?

Well I drive the 76SW v8 as a daily drive...work a lot up in Africa...remote areas and works hard...and my cruiser now has just shy of 230 000km on...I have just done servicing every 10k km...and all still running perfectly.

I think the challenge when buying a higher mileage vehicle, you don't truly know the history i.e. how the previous owner drove it, what fuel was used and so on...

I bought my 2009 VX TD on 228,00km about a year ago. Now on 255,000 without issues. It really is a fantastic car, in my opinion.

A similar question arose on a different forum a while ago - and my reply below.

I've been involved in the middle East (IRAQ/Afghanistan) for the past 15 years, with massive fleets of V8 200's (armoured) - I'm talking 200 to 300. We went over to the V8 200's when they became available.

Despite oil etc origination largely from the middle east, the quality of oil and diesel here is absolutely appalling, taking samples of diesel you get a sludge layer on the bottom within minutes of letting it stand.

That all said, the vehicles gets an oil and oil filter change every 5000 km's as precautionary measure. That is also the sum total of the service, absolutely nothing else gets done. No electronic diagnostics etc as it doesn't exist here. Brake pads gets exchanged when needed.

We had very few failures despite the fact that the vehicles spend a large part of the day idling with the A/C running, and when travelling its over very badly maintained asphalt roads - summer temperatures in the high 40's to 50's, loads of dust etc. Also bear in mind that the vehicle are armoured, so the airflow in the engine compartment is restricted due to armour plating around batteries, in front of firewall etc. Radiators cracking and A/C failures do pop up from time to time, but that is not surprising.

I cannot think of much worse conditions to for a vehicle to work in, and these cruisers are all well over 250 000 to 500 000 plus km's.

None of these vehicles are fitted with oil catch cans, pre-filters or any other fancies - so I guess it is safe to say the V8 engine will last and can be largely self maintained.

I bought my 200 new in 2015 and have 155000km on the clock. No problems. Toured all over with a BL vlooi. What I did experience is that my diesel filter light came on after the service at toyota. I had the maintenance plan. I after been told the diesel is dirty and they need to clean the tank etc found out that they with the service plan only change the filter every 20000km. It really made me mad as the diesel in Japan is cleaner than SA.now since ensuring filter change every 10000km no more problems. I have been told by reputable toyota mechanic in CT that it is very difficult car to work on. So one needs to be aware of this. I also with the diesel VX expect to do the injectors and pump in the region of 250000km. Don't know much about the 200 but can assure you I love the car as much as my previous 100.
