    Default Gonarezhou Update

Hi All - we head to Gonarezhou at the end of next month (24 June). Does anyone have any updates on the conditions etc up there at the moment following the heavy rains etc earlier this year?

    Thanks

I was in the Lowveld area of Chiredzi/ Triangle this past weekend and the whole area is still very green and the bush is unbelievably thick for this time of year. Malaria is rampant in the area , do take pre- caution as we were told there are hundreds of Malaria cases as the rains was so late and plentifull.

We were in the Mabalauta side of the park about 10 days ago; entered from Mozambique (sango/ chiqualaquala).
All roads at this side were fine. We could cross the park and get into the chi ponds pools area though as the river is still to high; you'd have to go through chiredze to get there.
Might be a lot better by the end of June.

Every time this place comes up on the forum I hit a mental flip flop and think it's a thread about STD's.

    Happens every time.

Just like the JAG 2017 type threads. I get exited and expect to see a nice new car X-Type and it turns out to be a thread about where and when to go and kill Bambi.

Sorry wickychicky - I guess you meant that you couldn't cross? We will be coming in from chiredzi. Do you know if we would be able to get to Hlaro from there?? Regards Martin

    Sorry for confusing you!
According to the parks officer on the Mabalauta side, you currently cannot get to Hlaro from Chipinda.
But it certainly sounded like a seasonal thing and in a month's time, he made it sound like it would be do-able.

But I am a total newbie, so don't take my word for it! Maybe someone with more experience here knows better?
Or contact them via their website: I got a very nice, clear reply from them within 2 days when I sent my enquiry over.

    Fingers crossed for you!

    Hi,
I'm also planning a trip to Zim soon. Can someone please confirm the route through Kruger Park into Moz and then into Zim in order to get to Gonarezhou? Which are the border posts? Google Maps is very sketchy on details in the area

    Hi all,
Has anyone done/planning to do the Kruger/Pafuri/Sango/Gonarezhou route recently? I'm planning a trip early July and wanted to find out how the river levels are after the incredible rainy season?
    Cheers

We did Kruger-giryondo and Sango/Gonarezhou in the first 2 weeks of May, no problem at all.

Just wanted to point out that the direct contact details for Gonarezhou are now outdated, and we'll ask ZimParks to update their website.

You can contact Gonarezhou Reception at: ++ 263 (0) 779 788 811, or email: [email protected]

    Thanks

    Hi Elsabe,

We are planning to visit Gonarezhou with a booking at Mabalauta on 6/7 July and at Lesoda 8/9/10/11 July.

We would like to travel from Mabalauta via the interior of the park up to Lesoda.
Can we swap / exchange one of the nights at Lesoda for a sleepover somewhere in the middle as we don't want to rush through this area?

Which sites whould you suggest we stay over on this route?

    Thanks!

I've decided to brave Beitbridge as I didn't want to attempt the Limpopo solo
Heading through on 5 July straight to Chipinda Pools.

    Some questions for the forum!
Do you need permission to drive through Gonerezhou from Mabalauta to Chipinda,or do you have to exit and drive through Boli northwards? We are planning a trip for august next year so hopefully impassable crossings will not be a problem.
What is the distance from Mabalauta to Chipinda through the park?
Do you have to book in at Chipinda having booked in at Mabalauta or can you book in via Chinguli?
Is booking done through Zim parks or [email protected]?
    Thanks in advance
