On my trip there last year the river rose over night (see Sa4x4 May Issue) and we missed the crossing by a couple hours. The next morning you could not even get anywhere near the crossing due to rains and it took us two days to get back to Pafuri. It was brilliant!!

Unfortunately/fortunately depending what you are into, this time of year you can never be 100% sure until you arrive at the crossing as the Limpopo catchment area stretches well into Botswana and Zim and the river can rise in hours.

    The Limpopo crossing is out.

I was at the river at 18h00. We are also haveing some nice rain right now, so it is just getting deeper. The river is not bank to bank yet, but it is running to fast for a crossing.

Hi. I'm planning to cross in mid August. What can I expect at that time of year?

You will have no problems in August unless very unusual rains have been experienced in the Limpopo catchment areas.
