Default Advice needed about west coast traveling....

    Good afternoon everyone.

I am looking for a nice route to travel (mainly offroad or off the beaten track). We want to travel from cape town to lamberts bay and strandfontein including swartberg pass, donkieskraal and wuphertal.

Is there apps for android that advise on routes like that without having a gps or tracks for africa?

MMS, not trying to be funny, but have you actually looked on a map to see the location of the points mentioned in relation to each other? It can be done , but I somehow get a feeling that you need to do some homework first. I'm sure a number of people will gladly help as long as you first have a good idea of what you want. I hope I don't come across too severe, its definitely not the intention

Are you sure about Swartberg Pass? That is way out of the area, based on your other places mentioned?

As far as I know, the only "off the beaten track" roads will be from Elands Bay the railway road to Lambertsbay, then the railway road from Lambertsbay to Doringbay as far as I know is no longer open to the public, but there is another gravel road just past Graafwater that will take you up towards Vredendal.

You can then return to Clanwilliam, take the road out to the Biedouw valley and then Wupperthal, and continue via Eselbank and you will end up in Citrusdal again. From there another gravel road that will take you to "op die berg" and from there down to Ceres.

Careful of those railway roads. They are not open to the public anymore, (use to pay a toll) but also not barricaded at both sides. Just the other day I took the chance and only got to a manned boom on the other side where they tried to turn me back. Only after it was very clear that I would rather drive trough the boom than turn around did they reluctantly open the boom........not to help me, but to save the boom. Pity, coz those roads can save you quite some time.....

May be the swartberg pass you refer to is the gravel road that runs from Clanwilliam dam over Witelskloof pass (next to Swartberg mountain) to my farm where it makes a T junction with the R365. Donkieskraal is also just 11km from here. Feel free to PM for information on all the roads in the area as I am right in the middle of it. Mooi loop

Anything else in particular that I should know. Thanks

The run between Hondeklip and Groenrivier can have stretches with deep sand. I have towed through there, but one must be "awake and ready" or you may spill your coldrink all over your steering wheel, and drop the tyre pressure as much as possible.
