Well that was a waste of a journey, the fuel stations in Kasane are not allowed to fill containers, not even metal jerry cans, for Zambia registered vehicles.

    Oh well Namibia next stop!!!!

Ouch. Is that something new? Does it apply only for Zambia registered vehicles? Didn't have any such problems few years ago with SA vehicle.

Seems strange unless there is perhaps large scale fuel smuggling going on because of price differences. I certainly have regularly filled up my jerry cans when doing Kasane to Maun via the national parks.

Stan you aren't in a zambian registersed vehicle and yes there is a massive fuel smuggling problem or " cross border trader" happening now.
The petrol we get here is not good, or should I call it crap.
Since putting in "foreign" fuel I have advanced my timing by over 6 degrees and am getting a much better burn and no bore wash.
The DC of our area has ask Botswanan authtoirites not to fill Zambian fuel cans. ( or plastices.

I'm pretty sure if you are a Muzungu and not in a taxi then you will have no problems. However the the letter of the law is that unless you tank/containers are not plumbed into the main tank then you are "smuggling"

I've just heard from my " cross border trader" that he is now bringing fuel in through Zimbabwe, in a Zim registered vehicle, from Botswana, and he is having no problems filling Jerry cans, and crossing borders??!!!!

It all seems so ridiculous to live in this part of the world!!!

And that is part of the reason it is so expensive here in Zambia, but that is another topic!!!
