Nice trip report. Definitely on our to-do list.

Will we be fine doing it on motorbikes? I'm thinking two or three adventure bikes with a support vehicle and maybe bike trailer in case of an incident.

Assuming a reasonable level of riding ability, it's not a really hectic technical route, it's just remote, so if you have a problem it is far from help.

Yes you will be just fine. Actually discovered this route on a bike forum. Many bikers do it. Nothing technical just remote. Awesome scenery.

Ideal for biking. You will not be sorry.

    Hi Johan65
    Amazing photos and report.
We are wanting to take this route when leaving Tankwa going to Clan William in March. We will be 2 vehicles both towing of road trailers.
My first question; would the route be do-able towing a trailer?
Secondly how much time should we allow to do the route at a leisurely pace where we can stop for snacks and for many pictures?

    Thanks

We plan on doing the route this weekend - will we be ok to take a small trailer through?

From the photos it looks fine.

Edit: didn't see above post, but same question!

    What vehicle what trailer ?
When going east west. Just take slow on first river crossing when going over some rocks. The other crossing is just a sand slope ditch but nothing where trailer cannot go

There really are no major obsticles. Watch your lines and go slow over the few rough sections.

It is just a standard trail. No major 4x4 obsticles.

Go slow and give us your feedback if you decide to do this route. Would love to hear experience of people doing it with a trailer.

Not in a hurry with lots of stops and photos anything between 5 and 8 hours.

Really cannot see a problem with a savuti.

Thanks for the feedback Johan. Yes our plan is to make a day trip out of it so slow with lots of stops.
Quicksilver, I would love to get your feedback on the route once you have done it. Enjoy it.

I am looking forward to this trip.

So some feedback - had a great trip. trailer was no issue.

Unfortunately I had some tyre drama with a flat on the R355 on the way up (sidewall ruined) and then a second on the trail itself, again ripped sidewall.

This required us to leave the Jeep up there overnight while we kindly got assistance with 2 second hand tyres in Clanwilliam.

All part of the fun. But have now upgraded to BFG, so hopefully sidewall failures are a thing of the past.

This might go very nicely with Afrikaburn 2018.
