My exact thoughts. And something one does not see replicated nowadays. Architecture back then in my opinion was on another level and more so due to the fact that they lacked today’s technology.

    Simple

find a sandcastle or dungheap, or rocky outcrop that you can sit on and feel secure and superior and then build walls around yourself.
Then you find that 1 wall is not enough so you keep building and building until everybody accepts you are king of the castle

The Koana Islands lie south of the equator, between Madagascar, Indonesia and Australia. The archipelago includes 32 islands, with a total of 93 million residents. The reason you've not heard of it before is that it does not really exist. The nation was invented by an Australian train driver called Ian Silva, and the incredible maps he has produced of the islands are well worth investigating.

    Zoom-worthy....so here is a larger version: https://stag-komodo.wired.com/images.../Koana_map.png

You mean the one with Mount Fuji?

If I recall correctly, the buildings are part of a "museum" type of setup, where they show visitors what Japan looked like years ago. Something like that. Will see if I can find where I read that.
