    It should be easily rebuildable.
They just need to get it into fresh water ASAP because there are Magnesium bits on the engine and in the airframe that will be fizzing like Enos right now.

In my book, all he did wrong before touchdown was not kill the engine. He bent his prop blades and sucked a fair amount of water into it by not killing it.
Aside from that, it doesn't get much better for a forced lob.

Maybe start an alternative thread then?

This thread has come a long way with everyone careful not to derail it or start a thread within a thread.

A couple of comments are fine, but a whole discussion... I don't think so

I have no idea of the source for this, but the following was added to the picture where I found it.

Last night I captured a 144 megapixel composite image of our moon. This was captured using 8,000 photos, which my camera took in just 7 minutes.

I'm not convinced that buckle is due to an earthquake - I did find your posted pic with the caption of Canterbury earthquake on the Web, but no convincing text to confirm.

Interesting article, explaining steel yield being used for continuous railway lines without expamsion joints. And of course the buckling due to two towns being closer by 2m after the earthquake.
